In April 2023, the U.S. Marine Corps launched operation (Exercise) Garnet Rattler, seizing the U.S. Air Force’s gunnery range known as Saylor Creek, in Southern Idaho.

The use of the word ‘garnet’ is appropriate because Idaho is officially known as The Gem State.  Exercise Garnet Rattler is about training Joint Tactical Air Controllers (JTAC): “Garnet Rattler’s main objective is to take entry level joint terminal attack controllers, forward air controllers, air officers and joint fires observers, and put them in a live-fire environment that has a lot of maneuver flexibility, as well as aviation employment, in order to train realistic scenarios for their entry level controls in the fleet.”-Master Sergeant Daniel Haack, JTAC manager for 11th Marine Regiment, 1st MARDIV

From 08-12MAY2023, the Idaho Air National Guard’s Air Support Operations Squadron (part of the 124th Fighter Wing [FW]) blasted away at the U.S. Air Force’s Saylor Creek Range.

They were using the M240B 7.62mm-NATO machinegun, and the Mk19 40mm grenade launcher, infantry weapons: “The fight doesn’t stop when the planes go away. The Pacific North West (PNW) of the United States has its first joint U.S. Air Force (USAF)/Air National Guard ‘Total Force’ recruiting center, in Meridian, Idaho.

The grand opening was on 02MAY2023. The Total Force Recruiting Office is jointly operated by the Idaho Air National Guard and the USAF’s 368th Recruiting Squadron based on Hill Air Force Base, in Utah.

The USAF hopes this is a way of addressing the collapsing recruiting numbers: “This is the toughest it’s been in a long time for both active duty and Air National Guard recruiting. The fact that we’re forging these relationships and building this infrastructure during these complicated times, I believe, ensures our success going forward.”-Captain Annie Driscoll, USAF 368th Recruiting Squadron

So far, only two other states have USAF/Air National Guard Total Force Recruiting Offices; Illinois and Georgia.

China declares War on Idaho’s ‘woke’ Micron?

The People’s Republic of China (PRC, aka communist China) is now banning the use of Micron Technology’s (Micron) products in “critical information infrastructure” items sold/used in the PRC!  They claim Micron “failed” a national security test.

Supposedly, 10% of Idaho based Micron’s global profits come from sales in China.  However, PRC officials say most of the Micron sales went to other foreign companies operating inside the PRC.  CAC administrators did not give specifics about Micron failed its network security review.

Biden’s Borderland: Idaho deploys State Police to Texas/Mexico border!

We used a targeted approach to understand Texas’ needs and wanted to make sure our troopers will bring back what they learn to better protect Idahoans. The focus of the mission is two-fold – the ISP troopers will serve as a force multiplier for the State of Texas when there is an increased need for law enforcement along the U.S.-Mexico border, and our troopers will receive on-the-job training and experience up-to-the-minute enforcement techniques that can be brought back and immediately applied in Idaho.”-Brad Little

On 19MAY2023, Idaho’s Governor Brad Little revealed some details about his plan to deploy up to 12 Idaho State Police (ISP) troopers to Weslaco, Texas. This is not a spur of the moment decision, it was first announced back in January 2023.

It is blamed on the skyrocketing use of fentanyl.  From 2020 to 2021, the rate of fentanyl-related overdose deaths doubled in Idaho!

Idaho joins Florida in sending personnel to Texas. Governor Little explains how bad the situation is:

The plan to deploy ISP troopers to Texas is being coordinated with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). It is hoped that the ISP troopers will return home with experience that will help Idaho’s fight against fentanyl, however, this is not the first time Idaho has sent ISP to the U.S./Mexico border.  In 2021, at least five Idaho troopers were sent to Arizona, to assist with the flood of illegals crossing the border.

In July 2021, Boise television station KTVB explained how governors can send state personnel to help other states in emergency situations:

Here is an incomplete list of recent links, and video reports, affecting the 2023 Winter wheat harvest in the United States.

“We’ll see short wheat, thin stands, some wheat that looks really good and a lot of fields that aren’t going to be harvested.”-Justin Gilpin, CEO of Kansas Wheat Commission

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) projects the overall 2023-24 U.S. wheat supply to go down, while U.S. demand goes up, meaning higher prices!  The USDA also expects a slight 2% increase in Winter Wheat production, which won’t affect the overall yearly total.

Wheat bran might not be good for gluten free diets, after all!

KANSAS:  The Kansas Wheat Commission is confused by low wheat futures (wheat market prices).  Winter wheat harvests are going to be low, as low as the harvest of 1963, this should push futures higher (low supply, high demand) but for some reason July futures went 16% lower: “It just feels like the market is oversold and kind of overdone considering the production situation we’re facing in the southern Plains of the United States.”-Justin Gilpin, CEO of Kansas Wheat Commission

But wait, here is another report that says “July Kansas City wheat prior to the report was up 13 cents but soared at one point to move nearly 58 cents higher before finishing with a still very strong gain of 35 1/2 cents.”

IDAHO: Higher commodity futures might not be enough to cancel higher operating costs for Gem State farmers!

MICHIGAN/OHIO: Fertilizing (‘feeding’) the wheat, again, will it make a difference or is it “snake oilish”;

NEBRASKA: University of Nebraska worries that the dry Spring killed the Winter wheat harvest: “It’s been a cool, dry spring, so we haven’t had a lot of growth in the wheat. It has greened up. So, we can now see what kind of stand we have, or winter kill.”-Cody Creech, Nebraska Extension dryland cropping specialist

OKLAHOMA: Oklahoma Grain and Feed Association warns that the 2023 Winter wheat harvest could be lowest, ever!

Eight months without rain, when it came it was too little too late, tough drought not seen since the 1950s;

Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University warns there are cost concerns for fertilizing wheat for hay or grain;
