Snow white El Camino!

My imagery fails to reveal the pearl paint, which looks like ice crystals sparkling on freshly fallen snow.

¡Carros! ¡Familia! ¡Azteca!: Calakas’ Cinco de Mayo, Idaho Falls!

Cinco de Mayo honors the 1862 victory of Mexico over the invading French, at the Battle of Puebla.

Calakas’ Cinco de Mayo festival at the Waterfront on the Snake River Landing, Idaho Falls, 04MAY2025.

Initially it doesn’t look like many people showed up, but three hours later it was wall-to-wall, packed with people and vehiculars!

Familia:

Carros:

Azteca:

By the end of the routine several dancers were trying to keep from losing their headdresses.

This is from the closing dance/ceremony:

I got to the event at noon, three hours later it was too crowded for my liking, even the parking situation was getting bad with newcomers blocking in parked cars (plus I forgot to wear a hat) so time for me to vamos.

Extra security guards were called in, and an Idaho Falls police guy paid a visit. Proof the fiesta was a success!

Smoke ’em if you got ’em: First ever (legal) Drift Car event, at the Mall!

The Pine Ridge Mall in Chubbuck, Idaho, hosted three SCCA autocross events this year, and for an encore hosted an Inaugural Drift Car event.

Work began on the evening of 04OCT2024, establishing the area of the parking lot that would be used.  Formula Drift-Rudy Hansen, Apex Idaho, Pocatello Car Club, and a host of others, helped make the inaugural smoke show possible.

The cleanest that part of the parking lot has been in decades!

They were still prepping the parking lot the next morning.

Waiting in the wings, 05OCT2024:

Plenty of seating, at a safe distance.

Warming up (teasing) the spectators who were straggling in:

Too bad they didn’t drift this patriotic van.

The pros show you how:

It’s amazing how cars sliding around light poles can hold people’s attention for several hours. One more time:

The event ran most of the day.  For a fee you could view the action from danger-close in the ‘restricted area’, and for another fee you could take a ride (of your life).  Going by the size of the spectator crowd (which was bigger than any of the SCCA autocross events) I suspect (hope) they’ll be a Second Annual Drift Car Show, in 2025.

At the Mall: Early Halloween, Trunk or Treat

Early Halloween, Trunk or Treat at the Mall!

While they were busy trying to setup the parking lot for the inaugural Southeast Idaho drift car event, during the evening of 04OCT2024, a handful of cars were sneaking into the Pine Ridge Mall (in Chubbuck, Idaho):

Don’t be a Public Nuisance:

The event was organized by the Pocatello Car Club, with the help of a hell-of-a-lot of sponsors.

Car show walk-about part-B:

Despite the show being officially only four hours long, several cars drove-in from Blackfoot and Idaho Falls, at least one driving from as far as Burley (79 HWY miles one way)!

Car show walk-about part-C:

Car show walk-about part-D:

So many cars showed up at the Inaugural Veterans Memorial Building car show, last year, that the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Association had to ask the City of Pocatello if they could use the adjacent Memorial Park to stage vehicles, this year.

Inaugural Summer AutoFest, Pine Ridge Mall, Idaho.

Phil Meador’s inaugural Summer AutoFest, with dozens of show quality vehicles inside the Pine Ridge Mall in Chubbuck, Idaho, and more vehicles outside the mall, during the weekend of 24th through 25th August 2024.

The event was organized by the Pocatello Car Club, with assistance from the Idaho Classic and Modern Muscle car club.

Professional car painting was available:

A table with some tiny cars.

The show actually started Friday evening. It took at least two hours to stage the vehicles inside the mall, and more would show up on Saturday and Sunday.  Here’s a short example, part-1:

Part-2, things started getting nit-picky:

Outside there were plenty of food trucks.

And there were other vendors.

There were plenty of cars outside, but it felt like some vehicle owners would leave not long after arriving:
