On 14JUN2025, the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho, put-on a car show and barbeque to honor veterans.

Wagon of Diesel Power!

What’s better than an old post-World War Two Dodge pickup truck?  A post-WW2 Dodge with a modern turbo Diesel!

It’s called the Oldies Rod & Custom car show for the Pocatello Senior Activity Center (SAC), this year it was held on 14JUN2025.

Idaho’s Chrysler DeSoto

This old car has been around town, appearing at last year’s “…car-show that almost wasn’t?!” And on 12APR2025, the bomber DeSoto arrived for a Pocatello Car Club cruise that doubled as a memorial event:

The original DeSotos were actually Chryslers, and at first were called Series-K and were simply remodeled Plymouths.

The DeSoto brand was created in 1928, to do battle in the growing mid-price car market.  The name was chosen to honor the Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto (and many people don’t know that at one time De Soto was even featured on U.S. $5-hundred bill).

DeSoto ‘DE MIJO’ is a Series-13 (S-13), all-new for post-World War Two, produced from model year 1949 to 1952 (it got a ‘face-lift’ for 1953).  Base price was around $3-thousand.

Chrysler’s DeSoto brand ceased to exist after the 1961 model year.

Veterans Memorial Building car show, Bannock County, Idaho.

Second Annual Veterans Memorial Building Car Show, 31AUG2024, at the Memorial Park in the Old Town area of Pocatello, from 13:00 to 17:00 hours (but cars started showing up at 11:00).

Car show walk-about part-A:

Car show walk-about part-B:

Despite the show being officially only four hours long, several cars drove-in from Blackfoot and Idaho Falls, at least one driving from as far as Burley (79 HWY miles one way)!

Car show walk-about part-D:

So many cars showed up at the Inaugural Veterans Memorial Building car show, last year, that the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Association had to ask the City of Pocatello if they could use the adjacent Memorial Park to stage vehicles, this year.

The money raised from the car show goes to maintaining the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building.  Here’s a quick walk-around the building:

Summer AutoFest: When does getting a ‘D’ equal getting ‘100’?

In grade school getting a ‘D’ was approaching failure, but not in the kool old-skool system, getting a D could be the same as getting 100!  A 1970 Dodge D100, that is.

The event was organized by the Pocatello Car Club, with assistance from the Idaho Classic and Modern Muscle car club.

The show actually started Friday evening. It took at least two hours to stage the vehicles inside the mall, and more would show up on Saturday and Sunday.  Here’s a short example, part-1:

Part-2, things started getting nit-picky:

Outside there were plenty of food trucks.

And there were other vendors.

There were plenty of cars outside, but it felt like some vehicle owners would leave not long after arriving:

While it took about two hours to stage the vehicles, it took less than an hour to make their escape. Part-1 of the shortened video:

17 years of free cars & food?

17th Annual Gate City Real Estate’s Client Appreciation car show and food feed at O.K. Ward Park in Pocatello, Idaho.

I wasn’t expecting so many cars at a free event, but reportedly it is the biggest such event in Bannock County.  Gate City Real Estate also calls this event their ‘company picnic’, yet everybody is invited!

Here is a few of the many cars (pardon my Summer Time Allergies):

Some more cars:

Another sampling:

Free food line.

Even after two hours of checking out the cars, they still had plenty of BBQ:

The sky got smoky from all the wildfires, but it actually made for a cool sunset.

Elegant Living car show & free food!!!

The first day of June 2024, Elegant Residential Living held its Second Annual car show and free barbeque!

The show, shine and then stuff your belly happened in Chubbuck, Idaho, and some guy named Crazy Carl (and mysteriously/unknowingly ‘volunteered’ helpers) cooked up a storm of chicken and ribs! Never mind the cigarette, it just adds more flavor:
