U.S. Army deals with high cost of food and low morale among Cooks.

Recently the United States Army released videos which reveals the problem of a high rate of ‘burn-out’ among the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 92G (Culinary Specialist), and also revealed that the high cost of food is a problem for the Army.

I edited a video report via Sergeant First Class Rodney Roldan, which shows efforts to fire-up burnt out 92Gs:

“Our Soldiers are going to get fed by the same people that do the cooking and the feeding for the University of Alabama athletic department. These are the same experts that feed the Louisiana State University Tigers. We listened to our Soldiers, and we want to make this better for them. We have to.”Lieutenant General Chris Mohan, Army Materiel Command Commanding General, leading push to shift to contracted ‘Campus Style’ food service

For February 2026, the U.S. Army unveiled a new cafeteria facility in an attempt to save money on the higher costs of food. Basically the U.S. Army is hoping that shifting to contracted food service (with the foreign United Kingdom based Compass Group, through their U.S. subsidiary Compass Group USA) will save tax dollars. The ‘Campus Style’ eateries will be open from 06:30 hours to 20:00 hours, seven days per week, and will have seven stations of food prepared using more than 3-thousand recipes.

I edited together video via Specialist Steven Day, recorded on 11FEB2026, unveiling a new 42 Bistro dining facility on Fort Hood, Texas:

The Army also claimed, in a round-a-bout way, that their in-house food service had become so bad that Soldiers were spending their own money eating at civilian operated food venues.  For those of you who don’t know, part of the incentive to get people to enlist in the U.S. military is that their meals are paid for by the taxpayers.  The Army is also considering allowing Compass Group to sell beer/wine to Soldiers: “We tell our soldiers, ‘hey, look, go carry a rifle, but on Friday night, you can’t have a beer in a restaurant’. I think that we have to take a step back and trust our soldiers.”-Lieutenant General Chris Mohan, Army Materiel Command Commanding General, leading push to shift to contracted ‘Campus Style’ food service

Elegant Living car show & free food!!!

The first day of June 2024, Elegant Residential Living held its Second Annual car show and free barbeque!

The show, shine and then stuff your belly happened in Chubbuck, Idaho, and some guy named Crazy Carl (and mysteriously/unknowingly ‘volunteered’ helpers) cooked up a storm of chicken and ribs! Never mind the cigarette, it just adds more flavor:

Crazy Carl’s cooking was a success, but there were other food & drink items, all for free:

Spring Auto-Fest, in the mall!: HEAVY CHEV-ELLES!

Homegrown Potatoes & Onions in Pumpkin Soup.

July 2023

My way of gardening is controversial, just throw it in the Idaho dirt and see if it grows. No fertilizers, insecticides or herbicides. Just water and Sun, it works good enough for me.

I planted a white-onion two Summers ago, now it split into two onions.

This Spring, I threw some potatoes in the ground and already got a small harvest.

Pumpkin puree makes a good soup base (canned or make your own). I used salt, and the per-i-ful spices typical of pumpkin pie which requires hella sugar to equalize ( I like sugar, not for diabetics!). You must experiment with the flavorings you add to the pumpkin base, don’t blame me! I also used the potatoes & onions I recently harvested.

The onions, having grown for the past two Summers, are tough, I had to switch to a serrated knife to cut/saw them and then fry them to soften them.

Unfortunately, the potatoes are bland, even after boiling in salt water. That’s what happens when you just let plants grow ‘wild’, never know what you’re gonna get.

I made garlic toast, which is always good with ‘heavy’ soups, and you can use to sop-up the remnants left behind in the bowl.
