Inaugural Summer AutoFest, Pine Ridge Mall, Idaho.

Phil Meador’s inaugural Summer AutoFest, with dozens of show quality vehicles inside the Pine Ridge Mall in Chubbuck, Idaho, and more vehicles outside the mall, during the weekend of 24th through 25th August 2024.

The event was organized by the Pocatello Car Club, with assistance from the Idaho Classic and Modern Muscle car club.

Professional car painting was available:

A table with some tiny cars.

The show actually started Friday evening. It took at least two hours to stage the vehicles inside the mall, and more would show up on Saturday and Sunday.  Here’s a short example, part-1:

Part-2, things started getting nit-picky:

Outside there were plenty of food trucks.

And there were other vendors.

There were plenty of cars outside, but it felt like some vehicle owners would leave not long after arriving:

While it took about two hours to stage the vehicles, it took less than an hour to make their escape. Part-1 of the shortened video:

Summer AutoFest: Fine ’69

17 years of free cars & food?

17th Annual Gate City Real Estate’s Client Appreciation car show and food feed at O.K. Ward Park in Pocatello, Idaho.

I wasn’t expecting so many cars at a free event, but reportedly it is the biggest such event in Bannock County.  Gate City Real Estate also calls this event their ‘company picnic’, yet everybody is invited!

Here is a few of the many cars (pardon my Summer Time Allergies):

Some more cars:

Another sampling:

Free food line.

Even after two hours of checking out the cars, they still had plenty of BBQ:

The sky got smoky from all the wildfires, but it actually made for a cool sunset.

Holt Arena 2024, part-1: Chrome in the ICCU Dome

On the 15th-16th of March 2024, Idaho State University (ISU)-College of Technology Automotive Program held its ‘Chrome in the Dome’ car show, probably for the last time in ‘Holt Arena’.  That’s because in January 2024, the first in the U.S. fully enclosed colligate sports arena got a name change, for the third time since 1970.

The new name is ICCU (Idaho Central Credit Union) Dome, due to the arena’s recent refreshment being funded largely by the financial institution.  In 1970, it was called ASISU (Associated Students of Idaho State University) Minidome to honor the fact that students (whether they knew it or not) had funded the construction through increased student fees.  In 1988, the name was changed to Holt Arena to honor the athletic director who pushed for the creation of the Minidome.

My children all had their high school graduations in Holt Arena, and I attended my own graduation from ISU in Holt Arena.  It’s also used for many things other than sports and graduations, such as the Pocatello Spring Fair, farm shows and car shows, let’s go!

Hunger Games U.S.A.: Pocatello SAC show, June 2023.

On 10JUN2023, the Oldies Rod & Custom Car Show was held in Historic Oldtown Pocatello, Idaho, to benefit the Senior Activity Center‘s (SAC) food delivery service: “It’s the people that we serve are underserved in our community. And so, it really helps with the nutrition for them so that they can hopefully stay in their homes longer and with activities and everything else. That’s part of our goal to.”-Pam Landon, Secretary for SAC

The automobile show was free to the public, proceeds from food vender sales, and raffle ticket sales, went to help SAC.  Just to let you know how much the help is needed, in 2022 the Pocatello SAC served more than 22-thousand meals to local old people.

Here is a sampling of the vehicles that were there (click on each image to make them bigger):

Walk around video of the show, which was supported by many local business sponsors, most of the video has no audio as they were blaring copyrighted music at the event:

Apparently, the first Oldies Rod & Custom Car Show to benefit Pocatello SAC was on 10JUN2018.
