True Promise-2: The Three Missiles.

Iranian news media are reporting that Iran used three types of missiles in their latest attack on Israel.  Also, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG) claims 90% of the Israeli military targets were hit during the barrage.

The IRCG controls the strategic missile systems of Iran.

Purportedly an Emad ballistic missile being launched against Israel on 01OCT2024.

The liquid fueled Emad (Pillar) ballistic missile is based on the older Ghadr/Qadr missile.  It can steer itself all the way to the target after reentry into the atmosphere.  It is considered Iran’s first precision guided ballistic missile.

Fattah-1 on public display.

The two stage, solid fueled Fattah (The Opener)-1 is a ballistic missile with a top speed between Mach 13 and Mach 15.  It has a variable position exhaust to aid in steering.  Hypersonic missiles cannot be intercepted.  Iran already considers the Fattah-1 obsolete and is now producing the improved Fattah-2.

Ghadr/Qadr ballistic missile on public display.

The two stage, liquid fueled, Qadr (Intensity) ballistic missile has been upgraded with a lighter weight and longer fuselage (allowing for more fuel for longer range), and an improved guidance system.  The IRCG admits this missile is still not accurate.

Cold War to Near Peer Threats: Japan’s ‘lowrider’ Type 74, finally retired?

Cold War: Approximately 1947 (due to U.S. President Harry Truman’s Truman Doctrine) to 1991 (Operation Desert Storm, collapse of Soviet Union).  “Near Pear Threats”, a recent U.S. Army code phrase for the expected Third World War.

Type 74 during a yearly base security exercise, on MCAS Iwakuni, Japan.

Japan’s Type-74 battle tank was designed in the 1960s and produced in the 1970s and ’80s (during the Cold War). It was originally scheduled to be retired in the 1990s, but for financial reasons remained active with the Japan Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) until March 2024, when it was finally, officially, retired.

U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. Type 74s demonstrate their ‘lowrider’ collapsible suspension.

The Type 74 was originally designed to use a main-gun with an auto-loader, but it had so many problems it was decided to go with a manually loaded gun that was compatible with NATO ammunition.

The Type 74 uses a NATO standard 105mm main gun, with a redesigned breech & recoil system to get it to fit inside the turret.

Here is a boring USMC video (by Sergeant Cristian Bestul) of a Type 74, and its crew, posing for the camera, on MCAS Iwakuni, 17OCT2019:

Circa 1992.

One of the first Type 74s, of First Tank Group, circa 1985.

Type 87 SPAAG, based on the Type 74 chassis, circa 1999.

In 1987, Mitsubishi modified the Type 74 chassis to create the Type 87 SPAAG (Self Propelled Anti Aircraft Gun).  Japan also has a Type 87 Recon Combat Vehicle (RCV), but it is a wheeled armored car not related to the Type 87 tracked vehicle.

Lowered Type 87 SPAAG, circa 1992.

The Type 87 SPAAG was officially unveiled to the taxpayers in 1990.

In 1980, most Japanese tank units were using the Type 61, and even the older U.S. made M41 Walker Bulldog.

I worked for the original owner of the Pine Ridge Mall during the few years before it was sold to the second owner, an evil global corporation based in Chicago, and we used to have car and RV displays during the warmer months of the year.  But, the evil second owner killed everything off!  The Pine Ridge Mall is on its third owner, supposedly a family company based in Saint Louis, Missouri, which specializes in bringing back depressed malls. The third owners have been working hard to slowly bring in new businesses, and they gave their blessings on this inaugural Winter/New Year indoor auto-show (with a possibility for more car shows!).

Both the A-10 Thunderbolt-2 and the F-16 Falcon were developed during the same decade; the 1970s.

In July of this year, the Idaho Air National Guard revealed that the U.S. Air Force is forcing them to replace their A-10Cs with F-16s, starting in 2027.

The A-10A (first flight May 1972) was the result of U.S. Air Force experience with ground attack missions over Viet Nam.

An F-16A belonging to Hill AFB, Utah, flies over Nellis AFB, Nevada, December 1979. USAF photo by Ken Hackman.

The F-16A (first flight in 1976) was developed as a replacement for the F-5E Tiger-2 (itself a replacement for the F-5A Freedom Fighter, designed to be a low cost aircraft for countries who did not have the money to buy the big combat planes, and was subsidized by U.S. taxpayers through the MAP [Military Assistance Program]).

The first USAF unit deployment of F-16s to Europe involved Falcons from Hill Air Force Base, Utah, in 1981. They were sent to Flesland Air Station, in NATO-Norway. U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sergeant Don Sutherland, 01MAR1981.

The division between those in the USAF who liked the A-10 and those who liked the F-16 began during the development of the prototypes, in the 1970s. My father worked at Edwards Air Force Base, California, during that time, and was one of the pro-F-16’ers.  Edwards AFB is where both aircraft were originally developed. My father would come home from work stating that he hoped something bad happened to the A-10, so that the USAF would choose the F-16.  What people (including my father) didn’t seem to understand is that both aircraft were the result of combat experiences over Viet Nam, and were intentionally designed for specific missions, which is why at that time the USAF wanted both aircraft.

Both aircraft have been upgraded over the decades, yet ever since the Obama regime was in power the U.S. Air Force has pushed to replace the decades old A-10 with the decades old F-16.

Operation Jupiter-HRAPS: In the name of Health, you can be tracked in Real Time!

04 October 2023 (14:13-UTC-07 Tango 06) 12 Mehr 1402/19 Rabi ‘al-Awwal 1445/20 Ren-Xu 4721/04 Октябрь 2023 года

Health/fitness trackers have been in use since the 1980s, but the latest U.S. Army version takes ‘health tracking’ to a new level: “The HRAPS is a fantastic tool to help tactical commanders and frontline health care providers make critical decisions about Warfighters’ health and performance during both training and real-world operations. It is designed to help small-unit leaders and frontline medics identify possible health concerns before they become critical. It gives a snapshot of critical health and performance data about once a minute, so leaders can know their Soldiers’ location and vital signs at all times whenever the device is transmitting data.”-Emily Krohn, U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity-HRAPS program

Packaged HRAPS waiting to be tested in a CBRN environment, during Exercise Scarlet Response in Perry, Georgia, 19JUL2023. U.S. Army photo by Cameron E. Parks.

The U.S. Department of Defense is using the excuse of supposed ‘failures’ of medevac during the Iraq and Afghanistan occupations, and the expected coming Near Peer War, to justify HRAPS: “Because of the forecasted future nature of combat, it will be imperative to have modern, user-friendly, rugged, and expeditionary tools like HRAPS to help frontline commanders in the Joint Forces make more informed decisions. The reality is that medevac capabilities found during previous operations, like in Iraq and Afghanistan, will be stretched very thin due to the possible operating environments of the future, where small teams will deploy far from higher echelon care facilities in austere, remote locations. It will be a critical advantage to have tools like HRAPS that will help provide advanced warning for health concerns that can point to deeper issues before they become emergencies. Having real-time health information for the Warfighters on the frontlines will help inform field medical care and maximize the effectiveness of available resources.”-Emily Krohn, U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity-HRAPS program

A U.S. Marine gets an HRAPS during CBRN training in Perry, Georgia. U.S. Army photo by Cameron E. Parks, 24JUL2023.

Of course, this new device is being touted as a tool only for saving your life: “During emergency situations while treating injuries and casualties, every minute counts, and having a baseline of physiological data tracked over a period of time would help inform decision making while treating Soldiers in the field. We know that the effects of injuries compound over time, so being able to identify vital sign anomalies before they present in a patient is important to helping prevent possible complications with the onset of symptoms. If abnormalities do appear, we will be able to treat them early in the continuum, which would help mitigate injuries before they begin to escalate, and help providers apply a more holistic approach to casualty treatment, leading to better overall outcomes.”-Staff Sergeant Jesse Hylton, Best Squad competitor who is testing HRAPS
