Cold War & Beyond: Royal Navy handed keys to U.S. Navy nukes!

The Joint Steering Task Group trains-up Royal Navy ballistic missile submarine crews on how the U.S. Navy nukes work, but wait, this isn’t new, it’s been in operation since 1963!

The UGM (Underwater-launched Guided Missile) Polaris Sales Agreement allows the two countries to share nuclear technologies, in the name of a joint defense against a common enemy.  During the non-declared Cold War the enemy was the Soviet Union, today it is Communist China, North Korea and Russia.

In 1982, the Polaris Sales Agreement was amended to include the UGM Titan-2 Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM).

A UGM-27 Polaris SLBM is launched from the British nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine HMS Revenge (S 27).

In 2006, the Polaris Sales Agreement was amended again; the U.S. and U.K. will jointly develop a new SLBM.

On 14DEC2023, the 200th meeting of the U.S.-U.K. Joint Steering Task Group was commemorated at the U.S. Navy’s Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic, Kings Bay, in the U.S. state of Georgia.  Video report by Austin Rooney and Petty Officer Second Class Tyler Wheaton, while this report was apparently recorded on 14DEC2023, it was not released until 01FEB2024:

Oregon gets new weapons, shoots-up Idaho? More proof the U.S. military is owned by foreigners!

Oregon Army National Guard’s 162nd Infantry Regiment-41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) got two new weapons, new sniper rifles and upgraded rocket launchers.

The MK22 can adapt to use several sizes of rounds; 7.62mm NATO (.308), .300 Norma Magnum, and .338 Norma Magnum calibers. Oregon Army National Guard photo by Major Wayne Chris Cline.

While the 41st IBCT is an element in the Oregon Army National Guard, it is part of the Regular Army’s 7th Infantry Division based on Fort Carson, in Colorado.

The new Multi-role Adaptive Design Mark 22 (MrAD MK22) sniper rifle is made buy a company located within the United States, but that company is owned by a British empire (Commonwealth of Nations) Australian based “Global Munitions Company” known as NIOA.

On 07FEB2024, the 41st IBCT tried out their sniper rifles on Idaho’s Orchard Combat Training Center (which, despite what map apps and news media will tell you, is not in Boise, it’s actually 18 miles south of Boise):

The new, lighter weight M3E1 Multi-Role Anti-Armor Anti-Personnel Weapon System (MAAWS) can launch different types of rounds, and can be used against lightly armored vehicles.  They are called ‘Carl Gustav’ because they are made by Kingdom of Sweden’s SAAB.

Cold War & Beyond: Polish BAT-M, Warsaw Pact engineer vehicle now used by NATO!

Cold War: Approximately 1947 (due to U.S. President Harry Truman’s Truman Doctrine) to 1991 (Operation Desert Storm, collapse of Soviet Union).

Based upon a backwards Soviet T-54/55 battle tank chassis/lower hull, the BAT-M (бульдозер артиллерийском тягаче модернизированный, Bulldozer Artillery Tractor-Modernized) is basically a bulldozer, but western/NATO military analysts prefer to call it by the more mil-speak sounding title of ‘route clearing vehicle’.  The lower hull of the T-54/55 was rotated so that the power pack (motor/transmission) and drive sprockets were at the front of the vehicle.  It uses a manually operated transmission.

The BAT-M crew-cab is a widen/modified ZIS truck cabin. Supposedly 35-thousand were built by 1979, when production stopped. Today, most are rusting away, some are for sale.

Beyond: Post Cold War, Balkan Wars, War on Terror, Battle for Ukraine, 1992 to present.

Former Warsaw Pact-Poland becomes NATO-Poland in March 1999, despite a February 1990 promise by the United States Secretary of State, James Baker, that NATO would not expand “one inch eastward”.

The Museum of Military Technology, in Poland, uses a BAT-M as a tour bus!

On 25JAN2024, B-1B bombers based on Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB), South Dakota, were re-deployed to one of my old alma maters, Dyess AFB in Texas, in a ConUS-to-ConUS (Continental United States) mission.  On 29JAN2024, local South Dakota news media were told it was to facilitate the investigation into the recent crash of a B-1B:

In actuality, the South Dakota Lancers joined the Texas 7th Bomb Wing Lancers in the ‘First Tier’ strikes against targets in Syria and Iraq.
