Wargame Talisman Saber (spelled Sabre in Australia) was first launched in 2005, it is held every two years, just missing the pandemic panic attack of 2020.  However, this year’s wargames (July 2021) supposedly included CoViD-19 health considerations, according to the U.S. Department of Defense that means reduced number of personnel and a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

USMC photo by Corporal Michael Jefferson Estillomo, 23JUL2021.

Officially the wargame was started by Australia and United States as part of the undeclared War on Terrorism (U.S. Congress never  declared war, they just authorized the President’s actions. A U.S. declaration of war is the same as declaring martial law domestically).  International participants in the Talisman Saber wargames now include British Empire (Commonwealth of Nations) members Canada, New Zealand and United Kingdom, and East Asian-U.S. occupied Japan and South Korea.  There were a couple of wargames where China deployed a Type 815G Dongdiao-class electronic surveillance ship to observe the goings-on.

Since 1964 Australia has used the U.S. designed M113.  Originally with the gasoline motor, later the diesel motor, most were license built in Australia.  The Aussies have regularly upgraded their M113s, the latest in use is the Tenix M113AS4, in various versions like APC, Fitter, Logistics (a tracked pick-up truck).  However, the most recent round of upgrades was delayed by several years (as much as six years), now there is talk of phasing-out the M113 with a true Infantry Fighting Vehicle, possibly by a German or Korean company.

Remember, NATO ‘partner across the globe’ Australia is also a member of the Commonwealth of Nations (the official name used for the British Empire since 1926). In 2002, while visiting the armor (armour) folks on Edmonton, I was told by members of the Canadian Lord Strathcona’s Horse that the United States had been secretly brought back into the Empire.  Australia’s M113 were produced by Tenix Defence, but in 2008 BAE (formerly known as British Aerospace or BAe) took over Tenix and created BAE Systems Australia.

Here’s some recent Empire shenanigans:

Sentimental Journey: 1986-2021

In July 2021, Sentimental Journey returned to the Pocatello Regional Airport, in Southeast Idaho.  It seems I always cross paths with this ancient restored aircraft, from the two decades when it was flown by the Confederate Air Force, to today’s Commemorative Air Force (just call it CAF).

Now it’s the people’s turn.

The people are so interested in the old bomber they don’t seem to notice the giant DC-10 water bomber that just landed.

If you had enough money you could get a ride in the B-17G bomber. Notice the K-Max firefighting helicopter in the background, lots of smoke in the air.

In March 2018, Sentimental Journey took part in CAF’s Tora, Tora, Tora display, over Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sergeant Tyler J. Bolken.

According to CAF, the B-17G that became Sentimental Journey spent the last few months of World War Two over the Pacific.  After the war it was converted to serve as a boat carrying Search And Rescue plane out of Florida.  In the 1950s it was used as a drone controller during nuclear weapons tests.  In 1959, it went to the Bone Yard in Arizona, but shortly after that it was purchased by a firefighting company in California.  Sentimental Journey still uses the registration number assigned while it was a fire fighter.  In 1978 the B-17 water bomber was donated to the Arizona chapter of the CAF.  The name Sentimental Journey was the result of a local newspaper holding a contest for the name. The Arizona CAF members restored Sentimental Journey to its World War Two bomber configuration.  Amazingly, Sentimental Journey was fully restored as a bomber and flying air shows by the end of 1985/beginning of 1986.

“As we were developing our enclosure, we realized there was likely the need to tailor it to military specifications, such as being able to attach it to a gurney and to develop portable vacuum pump. The need to adapt our technology to DoD needs aligned with the SBIR program. Our adaptations have led to a dual-use, civilian and military technology that is even more robust than our original ideation.”-Justin Rice, Olifant Medical

On 22JUL2021, the Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program unveiled a medical device designed to prevent people from getting infected with coronavirus.

It’s called a STAT Enclosure and was originally presented by a San Antonio, Texas, doctor back in June 2020.  It is meant for healthcare workers.  It fits over the head and shoulders of the infected victim,  it has ports to allow healthcare worker’s hands inside to treat the patient.  It also has an air hose that can be used to create a pressure environment inside the box.

The designers with Olifant Medical claim that while it looks simple, it was very difficult to develop.  Its development was paid for by the U.S. Air Force’s AFWERX program.  I found a news article which not only revealed that the AFWERX funded STAT Enclosure cost U.S. taxpayers a minimum of $1-million, but that AFWERX actually began its relationship with Olifant Medical back in February/March 2019 when AFWERX paid Olifant Medical $50-thousand in ‘seed funding’!

Trident of Poseidon: NATO’s new U.S. HQ fully operational!

“The survival of NATO and the success or failure in combat in a future war in Europe, will largely depend on the success or failure of this command.”-General Mark Milley, U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff (sounding a little paranoid)

In 2018, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO, which has become a global military since the end of the Cold War) announced that it would establish a new headquarters (HQ) in Norfolk, Virginia.  On 15JUL2021, NATO declared that HQ fully operational (Full Operational Capability).

U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Video, opening ceremonies where it’s admitted that NATO is more than just a military organization:

Essentially, NATO felt threatened by Russia and decided to create new ‘secondary’ military HQs outside of Europe, far away from Russia.   NATO’s Atlantic and European operations can now be directed from Virginia.

In this DoD video it becomes obvious that NATO considers itself a ‘christian’ organization:

In September 2020, NATO announced Initial Operational Capacity for its Norfolk HQ.  It is officially known as Joint Force Command (JFC) Norfolk, and is one of three JFCs around the world, it is the only JFC in North America.  All the JFCs report to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe in Casteau, Belgium.  In other words, a military HQ commanded by officials based in Europe is now located in the United States.

DoD video, U.S. Army General Mark Milley admits the seven-decades old U.S.-NATO alliance is about maintaining global dominance (“established international order”) by the ‘West’ under the guise of preventing a Third World War:

U.S. Navy photo by Petty Officer Second Class Joshua M. Tolbert, 23JUN2021.

JFC Norfolk hosts military personnel from 19 ‘allied’ nations and two ‘partner’ nations.  In June 2021, NATO’s Theater Component Commanders, and leaders from national headquarters around the Atlantic Rim, converged on JFC Norfolk to discuss ways to coordinate military activities: “The security environment has changed; it is more critical than ever that we, the military leaders within NATO, continue to reinforce our commitment achieving our shared visions. The strength of our nations is inherently linked and the security and stability of the Alliance depends on it.”-Vice Admiral Andrew Lewis, JFC Norfolk (sounding a little paranoid)

“This contract award greatly enhances our capability to provide rapid and agile response to meet the Navy’s ever changing contingency requirements from natural disasters to humanitarian efforts to assisting in military conflict.”-Rear Adm. Dean VanderLey, NAVFAC Atlantic

On 15JUL2021, the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic announced it will spend $5-billion on global construction projects on Navy/Marine Corps bases across the globe.

It is not only one of the largest construction projects ever for NAVFAC, it is considered the first ‘innovative contingency contract’: “This contract encompasses cutting-edge procedures geared to unique rapid response/emergency missions. NAVFAC will deliver on its promise to provide contingency construction support, surge to meet emerging requirements, and provide the necessary capability and flexibility to support the Navy’s mission in today’s ever changing world.”-Linda Stein, NAVFAC Contract Specialist
