Wargame Talisman Saber (spelled Sabre in Australia) was first launched in 2005, it is held every two years, just missing the pandemic panic attack of 2020.  However, this year’s wargames (July 2021) supposedly included CoViD-19 health considerations, according to the U.S. Department of Defense that means reduced number of personnel and a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Officially the wargame was started by Australia and United States as part of the undeclared War on Terrorism (U.S. Congress never  declared war, they just authorized the President’s actions. A U.S. declaration of war is the same as declaring martial law domestically).  International participants in the Talisman Saber wargames now include British Empire (Commonwealth of Nations) members Canada, New Zealand and United Kingdom, and East Asian-U.S. occupied Japan and South Korea.  There were a couple of wargames where China deployed a Type 815G Dongdiao-class electronic surveillance ship to observe the goings-on.

Since 1964 Australia has used the U.S. designed M113.  Originally with the gasoline motor, later the diesel motor, most were license built in Australia.  The Aussies have regularly upgraded their M113s, the latest in use is the Tenix M113AS4, in various versions like APC, Fitter, Logistics (a tracked pick-up truck).  However, the most recent round of upgrades was delayed by several years (as much as six years), now there is talk of phasing-out the M113 with a true Infantry Fighting Vehicle, possibly by a German or Korean company.

Remember, NATO ‘partner across the globe’ Australia is also a member of the Commonwealth of Nations (the official name used for the British Empire since 1926). In 2002, while visiting the armor (armour) folks on Edmonton, I was told by members of the Canadian Lord Strathcona’s Horse that the United States had been secretly brought back into the Empire.  Australia’s M113 were produced by Tenix Defence, but in 2008 BAE (formerly known as British Aerospace or BAe) took over Tenix and created BAE Systems Australia.

On 15JUL2021, the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) on Los Angeles Air Force Base, in California, hosted officials from the United Kingdom (the lead member of the British Empire known as Commonwealth of Nations) for a presentation (called a Space Pitch Day) designed to reinforce the U.K.’s role in the United States Space Force (USSF).

Cold War Helicopters: Sikorsky Dragonfly

In researching this helicopter on the inter-web I discovered many sites give conflicting information as to when this helicopter first flew, some say 1943, another says 1946, the Sikorsky S-51 Archives gives no dates.  This U.S. Navy photo is dated 05DEC1945, Sikorsky S-51 lands on the deck of United States Ship (USS) Princeton.

Sikorsky Aviation Corporation’s S-51 was developed from the S-48.   The U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) called it R-5, later becoming the H-5/SH-5 by the new U.S. Air Force (USAF).  U.S. Navy(USN)/Marine Corps(USMC)/Coast Guard(USCG) called it HO3S.  The British called their versions WS-51 (silly-vilian) and Dragonfly HR (Royal Navy)/HC (Royal Air Force).

08MAR2021, on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) revealed the new replacement for the Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV, formerly known as LVTP); the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV).

The new mantra for building support for the ACV is “Newer, Bigger, Better”, even though some former USMC officers have said otherwise about the ‘better’ claim.

In February 2021, BAE Systems claims it delivered the first command version of the ACV.  It was also in February 2021, that BAE revealed that the USMC upped its order for BAE made ACVs to the tune of USD$366-million.

In January 2021, the U.S. Department of Defense’s Director of Operational Test & Evaluation for Fiscal Year 2020 Navy Programs, said there were still numerous problems with the ACV: Things like tire failures in hot/dry climates due to problems with the Central Tire Inflation System, failure to meet mission deadlines, problems recovering broke-down ACVs due to their size and weight, armored seats made “rapid ingress and egress difficult”, Marines report great discomfort having to sit in those same armored seats, “subsystems with a high failure rate included suspension components, hatch and ramp sensors, and switches.”  

In October 2020, Italy based Iveco claims to have delivered 18 of their ACVs (aka SuperAV) to the USMC.

The ACV has been taking a long time in development (almost a decade), it was originally hoped that the ACV would begin field use between 2020 and 2022.  The entire ACV program is mired in controversy, from constant changes in mission requirements, to prototype funding problems, and claims that the decided upon British BAE Systems and Italian Iveco ACVs aren’t any faster than an AAV, doesn’t carry more than the AAV and even costs far more than a new AAV!

There were two phases of development, and in each phase the USMC paid millions of dollars for each prototype vehicle (as much as $14-million per vehicle in the second phase).  Another controversy is the fact that the original ACV concept intended for it to be able to maneuver with Marine Corps M1 Abrams battle tanks, but you all should know what recently happened to them.

In November 2016, the USMC paid BAE Systems $198-million for 30 ‘low-rate’ production ACVs.  Those low-rate ACVs were supposed to have been delivered by 2017-18.

In 2011, BAE and Iveco joined forces in the ACV competition for U.S. tax dollars. Unfortunately, it is yet another profit making military vehicle for foreign based corporations.  Aren’t any new U.S. armored vehicles made by a U.S. company?

In the land of the Canucks, a colorful Cormorant with rotary wings has refused to fly south for the Winter, and was recently seen flying the skies over Newfoundland and Labrador.

The CH-149 Cormorant is Canada’s nomenclature for the  AgustaWestland AW101 (formerly EH101), it is the Search and Rescue (SaR) version of Canada’s CH-148.  In the United Kingdom the AW101 is known as the Merlin.  Canada is part of the Commonwealth of Nations, which is lead by Queen Elizabeth the Second of United Kingdom, but apparently tried to show some independence by calling its AW101 ‘CH-149 Cormorant’.

Here’s why it is not a Paladin: At first it might be hard to tell the difference between an M109A7 and the M109A6.  It is not just a radical upgrade of the M109A6, it is a totally new vehicle.  The hull of the M109A7 is not your father’s/grandfather’s M109, it is based on the lower hull of the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle.

More examples of why the ‘A7’ is not a Paladin: In this 2016 photo of a M109A6 on Fort Riley, California, you can clearly see the recoil spade on the back of the hull (one on each side of the access door).  The M109A7 has no spades.  You can also see the type of track, which is skinnier than that used on the M109A7.

The M109A6 has a 440 horsepower diesel, while the M109A7 has a 600hp engine.  According to British sources, the M109A7 requires only four crewmembers and has automated loading of the gun, which can be aimed while the vehicle is moving.

The U.S. Army awarded a $688-million contract to BAE Systems, in October 2013, for the production of Paladin M109A7.  BAE is a British Empire company (formerly British Aerospace BAe, and GEC-Marconi/Marconi Electronic Systems MES).  In 2015, BAE got another $245-million from the U.S. Army, for the M109A7 and the M992A3 Field Artillery Ammunition Supply Vehicle.  Another $414-million was paid to BAE at the end of 2017!  All that was in addition to the total of at least $377-million paid to BAE to upgrade the M109A6 and M992A2 under the Paladin Integrated Management (PIM) program!

In the late 1990s, under the Bill Clinton regime, MES began taking over U.S. defense contractors.  In 1999, MES and BAe merged to create BAE Systems, apparently to stop a U.S. defense contractor from taking over MES.  In 2001, the same year the False Flag War on Terror began, BAE Systems aggressively invaded the U.S. defense industry, taking over many U.S. companies, including cyber security companies.
