KANSAS: The Lexena Sears Outlet is now a children’s play park. Back in February local news media were leaked shutdown info, but the Sears Outlet staff swore they knew nothing about any shutdown.

MASSACHUSETTS: Eddie Lampert spent at least $11-million USD buying  property which holds two active Kmarts, an active Sears Outlet, and a vacant Sears store and Auto Center.

NEW YORK: Even though Eddie Lampert claims he doesn’t have money to pay laid-off employees severance, it was revealed that Lampert’s newly created Transform Saleco (aka Transform Holdco) bought the ShoppingTown Mall Sears store for $3.9-million. 

All is not well in Wellsville, or in Allegany County, the economic situation is so bad that a coalition of christian organizations holding a prayer service in the recently shutdown Wellsville Kmart. 

Taxpayers in Suffolk County dodged a bullet when the owner of the vacant Kmart property rejected the county’s $1.8-million offer (reports claim taxpayers want to use the property as baseball parks).  Apparently county and state governments have been trying to buy the property since 2017.

OKLAHOMA: The Enid Sears Hometown store shutting down as soon as the inventory is gone.

The Enid store manager says it’s bullshit: “I’ve only been manager here for a couple months, and they’ve already laid me off…. …We’re a premier store. I actually won an award in April for sales, and then they told us they were closing. This store was doing great.”-Jeremiah Alcorn

PENNSYLVANIA: Sears Appliance & Hardware in Lower Nazareth Township shutting down in mid-June, local news media report that it is one of only 11 such stores remaining in the U.S.

TENNESSEE: Taxpayers could soon to be the happy new tenants of the vacated Oakdale Mall Sears, if a resolution is approved turning the former retail space into the new HQ for the Broome County Department of Social Services.

VIRGINIA: Washington County taxpayers could be forced to become the new owners of a vacant Kmart, spending at least $25-million to turn it into a new county court house.

The vacant Sears Tire America sold to the owners of Regency Square mall for $2.1-million, much more than the county’s assessed value of $1.8-million.

WASHINGTON: Surprise!  After months of claiming the store wasn’t shutting down, the Walla Walla Kmart is shutting down, in July.

WISCONSIN: Happy taxpayers being forced to ‘loan’ a property developer $4-million to turn a vacant Sears building into a ’boutique’ hotel. The $4-million “investment” is just part of a larger iceberg of covert-debt (loans appear as assets on the books, but you’re screwed if the debtor goes bankrupt) the exalted leaders of Milwaukee have hit local taxpayers with.

The partially taxpayer funded redevelopment of the vacant Stevens Point Kmart just got more expensive.

The Army M-O-S 88M will soon be needing less human capital as new robot HEMTT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck) take to the road as part of a new ‘command’.  The ‘Autonomous Leader Follower’ trucks have automated lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, driver warning systems(? but no driver).

16 experimental vehicles, each fitted with robotic ‘appliqué’ kits developed by engineers at the U.S. Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) in Michigan, were dedicated to human drivers killed in the occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq.  The ceremony, and testing of the robot HEMTT, took place in New Mexico at the beginning of April 2019.

More Decline: Popeyes quietly shuts down four Idaho restaurants!

On 24 April the Idaho State Journal discovered the three years old Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, in Chubbuck, had quietly shutdown.  So hush-hush was the shutdown that the exalted city leaders didn’t even know about it! That’s a far cry from the 2016 grand opening in which city leaders made a big deal about it:

In the above KIFI TV report you hear the Popeyes manager state that the location was chosen because they were expecting hundreds of customers from the new Pocatello FBI data center “in the next two months”.  That never happened.  Just like all the other big job promises by Pocatello and Chubbuck political and business leaders, it hasn’t happened.

Where’s the prosperity?

The Federal Bureau of Investigation digital data center is still under construction, and the promised 6-hundred (reports vary between 500 and 700, depending on which news source reported it, and when) permanent high paying jobs (the majority of which will be transfers from other parts of the U.S.) are still in limbo as the construction is taking much longer than the originally promised one year.

But it wasn’t the only Popeyes in Idaho to recently shutdown; the Ammon (the sudden shutdown was reported by East Idaho News on 19 April) and Twin Falls (KEZJ reports this is not the first or second Popeyes to fail in Twin Falls, it’s the third) locations also shutdown.  In January, Boise news media reported the Popeyes there was shutting down by early Spring, as with the other shutdowns no reason was given.

Some people speculate that Idahoans just don’t like fast-food chicken. Maybe it’s the economy.

Not a good pic, but this was taken before the Chipotle shutdown, it’s just to the left of the now shuttered Popeyes. This property was once the iconic Green T, which was gentrified in 2015 to make room specifically for Chipotle and Popeyes!

Oh, the Chubbuck Popeyes isn’t the first restaurant which came to town because of the promise of hundreds of FBI data center customers, to shutdown, in July 2018 the Chipotle (right next door to the Popeyes) suddenly shutdown.

Historic and iconic, after 89 years no more Green T in Idaho!

Does anybody in Chubbuck or Pocatello remember the popular and profitable Green T Bar & Grill, which was shutdown in order to make room for the strip-plaza which became home for the now failed Chipotle and Popeyes?  The 89 years old Green T was so popular that even President Truman and Willie Nelson ate there, yet greedy local leaders tried to make more money by gentrifying the historic property!  The current mayor of Chubbuck even uttered some famous last words about the tear-down of the Green T, saying it  was “…the beginning of some real good things coming in.”
