Vehicle I-D: Last ‘Spooky’ days of the AC-130U Gunship?

On 08JUL2019, some of the last AC-130U ‘Spooky’ with the 4th Special Operations Squadron returned from a recent deployment.

AC-130Us have been on constant deployment since 2001, but are supposed to soon be replaced by the new AC-130J Ghostrider.

U.S. Air Force video report by Staff Sergeant Marleah Cabano:

A Spooky sight at Hurlburt Field, Florida, 08JUL2019.

Here’s a cool video of the homecoming:

Welcome home!

Vehicle I-D: Normandy painted C-130 Hercules

On 02JUL2019, a ‘Normady’ striped USAF C-130J paid a visit to Belgium, to give some firefighters a ride.

The 37th Airlift Squadron, 86th Airlift Wing, landed on Chièvres Air Base, to help U.S. Air Force 424th Air Base Squadron firefighters train-up, and asked the Belgians if they wanted to tag-along.

Plastic space ship cockpit of C-130J Super Hercules.

Not sure what the firefighting training was as the USAF didn’t provide any pics of that.  I think it was actually a covert joy-ride.

There were several C-130 in Invasion Stripes attending the D-Day Anniversary, like this C-130J from Little Rock, Arkansas.

Back in May 2019, a C-130H got striped, a Kentucky Guard bird scheduled to take part in this year’s D-Day Anniversary.

Earthquake: Did USAF know California was about to be hit?

Over the July 4th, 2019, weekend California’s ‘seismic drought’ came to an end with two 6+ quakes.  Interestingly, Vandenberg Air Force Base had just conducted an earthquake drill exactly one month prior.

The scenario was held on 05JUN2019, to test if the base could continue operations during a natural disaster.

Interestingly the observers were made up of personnel from the 30th Space Wing Inspector General judge advocate of military justice, in other word’s Air Force lawyers and legal assistants.

30th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighters practiced drilling through concrete to rescue victims.

The 30th Medical Group was tasked to prove it could relocate and continue providing medical care if the base hospital was destroyed.

U.S. Air Force stated that disaster drills at all its bases are ongoing yearly events.

New Madrid 7.7 Seismic Event, massive National Guard deployment!

“In a domestic operation situation it don’t matter if it’s the Air or the Army, the public needs us to come as one team with one fight and to help relieve whatever situation is going on.”-Major General Tommy Baker,  Deputy Adjutant General of the Tennessee National Guard

Mass-casualty training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

From the end of May 2019, thru the beginning of June 2019, the U.S. military held a multi-state (Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee) National Guard/local responder exercise called Shaken Fury, in preps for a major New Madrid Seismic Zone event.

Official video explainer of operation Shaken Fury 2019. What if a 7.7 quake hit the mid-western U.S.? (with overly dramatic music):

One of the things Guard personnel trained for was reacting without any prior notice (called a ‘no-notice’ response). The main purpose of Shaken Fury was to identify potential problem areas for local disaster response.

Official video report of Tennessee National Guard mass casualty evac on C-17 Globemaster:

The training involved anything from being able to deploy large transport aircraft to martial law crowd control of ‘zombie’ quake victims.

Armored vehicles prepped for martial law crowd control at Camp McCain, Mississippi.

Official Mississippi National Guard video report explaining their version of martial law crowd control:

Simulated roof-top rescue, obviously they expect homes to fall victims to liquifaction.

It should be noted that the U.S. government, through Department of Homeland Security, pushed for the Shaken Fury training as part of a FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) policy called Emergency Support Function 14-Long-Term Community Recovery: “Understanding how disruptions cascade across infrastructure, and the role of private industry in responding and stabilizing our systems, is particularly important in major disasters such as the one we are exercising in Shaken Fury. This cross-sector understanding is what CISA aims to provide through the newly established Emergency Support Function number 14.”-Brian Harrell, Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)

Video, C Company, 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry Regiment, M1A2 SEP and M2 Bradley live fire (the voice you hear in the video is one of the first female armor platoon leaders in the U.S.):

At the end of May, 2019, the  Idaho Army National Guard’s 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team (which includes personnel from Oregon, Montana and Nevada) deployed more than 3-thousand troops to the U.S. Army’s Fort Irwin National Training Center (NTC) in California.

Idaho Air National Guard’s 124th Fighter Wing also deployed their A-10C Thunderbolt-2s to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, to provide close air support at NTC.  Even Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) personnel from Brazil joined in.

Another 1-thousand-plus support troops from several other state militias (Arizona, California, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and Puerto Rico), and several Army Reserve units, joined the 116th Armored Cav.

The state militias faced off against the U.S. Army’s 11th Cav Opposition Force (OpFor), who provided what’s now called ‘near peer’ threats.  Near peer is a reference to China and Russia.

Even Idaho Air National Guard’s 266th Range Squadron played bad guy, deploying fake 1/1 scale models of ‘enemy’ anti-air vehicles.

The wargame lasted 14 days.  The official report stated that this training is preparation for 116th’s deployment to NATO Germany in Spring 2020.
