Drugs, the American Way: Is Mexico & China waging a Fentanyl war against the United States?

Incomplete (tip-o-the iceberg, seriously this isn’t the half-of-it!) list of links to United States (U.S.) drug related crimes and oddities for the month of January 2023:

On 16JAN2023, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) transferred approximately 250 kilograms of cocaine, and three smugglers, to Dominican Republic. They were captured in the Mona Passage on 10JAN2023.

On 30JAN2023, USCG Cutter Emlen Tunnell (WPC 1145) captured 4-thousand kilograms of hashish and 512 kilograms of methamphetamine, in the Gulf of Oman. This was the first drug seizure in 2023 for Combined Task Force (CTF)-150: “This is just the beginning of our work in delivering maritime security operations in the region to stop illicit activities and drug smuggling. This comes as a result of a valued partnership between CTF 150 and all partner nations in Combined Maritime Forces.”-Captain James Byron, United Kingdom Royal Navy, current leader of CMF-150 (so, even the U.S. led anti-smuggling operations in the Gulf of Oman are commanded by Red Coats!)

Also on 30JAN2023, U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence gave a short history of the U.S. Tactical Analysis Teams (TATs) deployed to Central and South America, in the name of taking the Reagan era War on Drugs international. The first TAT was formed and deployed in 1989. Obviously, to me, it has been a resounding failure, but don’t tell that to the taxpayer funded U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence, or U.S. Southern Command (SouthCom).

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported capturing more than 379 million potentially deadly doses of fentanyl in 2022, enough to kill every American! Most of the fentanyl is smuggled by Mexican drug gangs, and is being mass-produced at secret factories in Mexico with chemicals sourced largely from China!

CALIFORNIA: The leader of a Guatemalan drug-gang sent to federal prison for just over 17 years. The operation involved smuggling cocaine from South American countries, through Guatemala and Mexico, into the U.S., using migrants and boats!

A Mexican national pled guilty to selling Mexican made pills of fentanyl and synthetic heroin. The pills were sold under the name of ‘Chinese Food’.

In the marijuana legal Golden State, the crew of the USCG Cutter Alert (WMEC-630) off-loaded approximately 4-thousand pounds of marijuana in San Diego, on 18JAN2023.

COLORADO: The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Rocky Mountain Division seized over 5.8 million potentially deadly doses of fentanyl in 2022! The Division covers the states of Colorado, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming.

FLORIDA: Doctor gets five years in federal prison for illegally prescribing opioid pain medication.

The leader of a drug smuggling gang is facing life in federal prison after a jury found him guilty. The meth came into Florida from Georgia and Texas, but originated in Mexico.

IDAHO: A Blackfoot man was sent to federal prison for life, for smuggling methamphetamine and heroin from Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mexico, and for operating a violent debt collection gang!

ILLINOIS: An illegal migrant sent to federal prison for more than three years, after he was caught smuggling fentanyl from Mexico, again!

The Drug Enforcement Administration Chicago Division announced the seizure of 804,551 fentanyl-laced, fake prescription pills and over 549 pounds of fentanyl powder in 2022! The Chicago Division covers Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.

LOUISIANA: The Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Orleans Field Division announced the seizure of more than 50.6 million fentanyl-laced, fake prescription pills and more than 10,000 pounds of fentanyl powder in 2022! The New Orleans Field Division covers Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas.

MARYLAND: The former medical director for Rosen-Hoffberg Rehabilitation and Pain Management was put on only 18 months probation for his part in an illegal opioid operation run through the clinic!

MS-13 gang member sent to federal prison for life!

MASSACHUSETTS: A 61 years old man pled guilty to being part of a Colombian Medellín Cartel cocaine operation, including violent debt collections.

An illegal from Dominican Republic, who is a repeat illegal migration offender, is now charged with the crime of smuggling fentanyl.

NEBRASKA: The DEA’s Omaha Division seized nearly 4.7 million lethal doses of fentanyl in both pill and powder form in 2022! The Omaha Division covers Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

NEW YORK: Man judged to be responsible for the deaths of three people in one day, after a court ruled that he intentionally laced the drugs he sold with a lethal dose of fentanyl. It was also shown that the drug dealer knew the victims had a history of health problems because of the drug!

A former leader of the Colombian drug gang Clan del Golfo (CdG) pled guilty to smuggling cocaine, he was fined $216-million and faces 20 to life in federal prison.

OREGON: A Honduran national arrested for smuggling heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and meth from Mexico, as well as 12 illegally modified guns.

SOUTH CAROLINA: Savitz Drug Store fined $275-thousand for violating the Controlled Substances Act!

RHODE ISLAND: After almost a year in jail, a Dominican national admitted to charges of cocaine smuggling by using the U.S. Postal Service!

TEXAS: Two Mexican women sent to federal prison after pleading guilty to smuggling heroin in potato chip bags, they were able to get into the U.S. legally by using B1/B2 tourist visas.

70 years old woman pleads guilty to smuggling $1-million worth of marijuana!

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s El Paso Division reported the seizure of over 50.6 million fentanyl-laced, fake prescription pills and more than 10,000 pounds of fentanyl powder in 2022! The El Paso Division covers West Texas and New Mexico.

The Dallas Field Division announces the seizure of more than 7,000 pounds of methamphetamine and over 1 million fentanyl-laced, fake prescription pills during the 2022! The Division covers North Texas and Oklahoma.

WEST VIRGINIA:

On 06JAN2023, the West Virginia National Guard retired their RC-26 Condor (# 94-0260), which had been used on counter drug missions inside the United States. RC-26 #94-0260 was the last of 11 such aircraft operated by the U.S. Air Force and National Guard.

Washington DC: The Chief Executive Officer of JointVentures delivery service pleads guilty to laundering roughly $3-million-500-thousand generated by the illegal sale of marijuana and THC!

The DEA’s Washington DC Division seized over 8.3 million potentially deadly doses of fentanyl in 2022! The DC Division covers District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

On 24JAN2023, Assistant Director Eric Talbot, Office of National Drug Control Policy, spoke with military students from Central and South America, attending the taxpayer funded Organization of American States’ Inter-American Defense College, about current U.S. illegal drugs policy.

WASHINGTON: A man working for the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG, Jalisco New Generation Cartel) was sent to federal prison for ten years, he was found guilty of smuggling fentanyl from Mexico, and illegally providing guns to drug gang ‘debt collectors’!

If you don’t think that countries would use drugs as a weapon of war then you’ve never heard of the British empire’s Opium Wars against China in the 1800s, the British empire was the pioneer of using drugs as weapons!

The concept of a Greater Idaho actually came out of Oregon, in 2019. Many rural Oregonians were tired of being dictated to by the woke-folk in Salem. Finally, on 15FEB2023, the Idaho House of Representatives voted yes to a Greater Idaho! The HJM-1 bill authorizes talks with Oregon about a huge swath of Eastern Oregon becoming part of Idaho!

It should be noted that many Army National Guard units located in Oregon are actually part of the Idaho Army National Guard’s 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team!

To date, eleven counties in Oregon have voted to secede to Idaho! The decision by Idaho politicians to vote in favor of a Greater Idaho came after the Claremont Institute published an economic survey that was supportive of a Greater Idaho, and that it would actually ease Oregon’s budgetary woes. It turns out that the average person’s income, in the areas of Oregon that want to defect to Idaho, is much less than those Oregonians in the Northwestern corner of The Beaver State.

World War 3: Idaho’s Combat Training Area expanded! Millions spent on fire fighting!

The Idaho National Guard revealed that over the past few years the training area known as Orchard Combat Training Center (formerly known as Orchard Training Area [OTA], back when I was a member of the Idaho Army National Guard) was greatly expanded, from approximately 143-thousand acres to more than 170-thousand acres!

Orchard Combat Training Center (OCTC) is located on federally owned BLM (Bureau of Land Management) property. In the past few years the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has spent big taxpayer dollars making the OCTC a premier combat training area, but it still doesn’t come close to the size of the U.S. Army’s Fort Irwin-National Training Center, in California.

The expansion of 2022 required more money to be spent, on upgrading the OCTC fire department. When I was in the Idaho Army National Guard there was no fire department on the OTA, but that changed in 2013, due to the massive spending by the DoD to create a new OCTC. To justify a fire department located out in the middle of BFE western Idaho, in 2014, the Idaho National Guard established mutual aid agreements between Orchard Fire & Emergency Services, the Boise Fire Department and the Oasis Volunteer Fire Department. In 2020, a deal was made with the Idaho Transportation Department. Currently, there are deals in the works with the Mountain Home Fire Department, and Mountain Home Air Force Base.

The result is that the OCTC Fire & Emergency Services has responded to more than 120 fires, and more than 40 emergency service calls on Interstate 84: “The Orchard Fire and Emergency Services is able to support emergency responses in local communities and during accidents on the interstate through mutual aid agreements. The agreements provide a benefit to not only those in need during emergencies, but also our firefighters who continuously hone their skills.”-Lieutenant Colonal Eric Sharp, OCTC director

Since 2019, the Idaho National Guard’s Orchard Fire & Emergency Services got federal taxpayer money for new vehicles, equipment, plus more than $6-million in building renovations which expanded the fire-station’s size from 10-thousand square feet to 21-thousand square feet. Also, the number employees went from 15 to 30.

Hunger Games: Idaho to build largest Dairy research center in the U.S.! Another White Elephant?

“We are building the nation’s largest research dairy in Rupert, Idaho. That doesn’t happen if we don’t have dairy processors come to the table and say, ‘We are going to support the producer community and put money toward this project.”-Rick Naerebout, CEO of the Idaho Dairymen’s Association

It is set to begin dairy ‘research’ in 2024, the University of Idaho’s taxpayer and food industry funded Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (CAFE, part of a larger CAFE Discovery Center): “Collectively, we can move mountains. From the Idaho Legislature to Redox and others in agriculture, it truly is a remarkable partnership that will pay widespread dividends.”–Michael Parrella, Dean of the University of Idaho’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, 07FEB2023

The new CAFE is being funded by a combination of Idaho taxes and food industry donations. The latest donation came from an Idaho company called Redox Bio-Nutrients, a half-million dollars! The CAFE is expected to cost at least $45-million to complete (keep in mind that the cost keeps going up, in 2022 one report said $22-million), and supposedly will be the largest dairy research center in the United States!

Redox Bio-Nutrients is a 30 years old company specializing in providing farmers with “with high-quality products that help growers efficiently and sustainably produce food.”

In May 2022, controversial (see below) dairy products maker Chobani donated $1-million to the CAFE.

According to a 2018 Farm Bureau report, even before the CAFE project began the Idaho Dairymen’s Association committed $2-million to the project, and Idaho state taxpayers were forced to fund at least $15-million!

In 2022, the CAFE Discovery Center Feasibility Study was published, revealing that one of the economic motivations for the larger CAFE Discovery Center is actually tourism, yet even with that it will not be a money maker, requiring yearly estimated funding to the tune of at least $260-thousand: “Further more, the pro forma assumes that all exhibit costs will be borne by sponsoring organizations in exchange for brand awareness. All this is feasible but will require a concerted capital campaign among Magic Valley area agri-businesses.”

But wait, there is more! The University of Idaho claims its new multi-million dollar dairy research center isn’t about solving any dairy shortages, but rather solving the ‘problem’ of a glut of dairy products! The federally mandated university says that most of the country’s dairy production is now concentrated in just two states; overpopulated California, and sparsely populated Idaho, and even so dairy output has skyrocketed with fewer cows: “The dairy industry currently produces 59 percent more milk with 64 percent fewer cows since 1944…. ….there has been a movement of dairy cows to the western United States with the greatest increases occurring in California and Idaho.”

In 1889, the University of Idaho was directly created by a federal ‘land-grant’, originally to act specifically as an agricultural research facility for the U.S., but in recent decades has become a ‘space-grant’ college as well.

Kawaii: U.S. Navy deploys USS Idaho to…Idaho?

Towards the end of January 2023, the U.S. Navy’s (USN) 26th nuclear powered Virginia-class attack submarine was ‘floated’ in landlocked Idaho!

That is, a scale model of the submarine SSN-799 USS Idaho was paraded through downtown McCall, during the yearly Winter Carnival.

Most people don’t know that the birth place of the world’s first nuclear powered submarine was in landlocked Idaho (see more below under Cold War Boats: Nautilus).

The visit of the miniature of the latest USS Idaho (several USN boats have been named after The Gem State) was instigated by the USS Idaho Commissioning Committee, which sent six of SSN-799’s future crew to Idaho, to learn just what-the-heck the state of Idaho is all about. They also spent some time on Idaho National Guard’s Gowen Field (which is also home to USN/USMC Reserve units); visited the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery; toured the Idaho Veterans Garden in Caldwell; spoke at school assemblies; attended the USS IDAHO Night at the Boise State University, among many other public relations events.

SSN-799 is currently being completed by General Dynamics Electric Boat, in Connecticut, and is expected to be commissioned into the USN in the Autumn of 2024. Former Idaho governor Dirk Kempthorne revealed that the christening ceremony will use a bottle filled with water from Idaho lakes: “We went to the different lakes in Idaho gathering the water, which will all go into the champagne bottle, so that when Terry Stackley, our sponsor, christens the boat, the first water that will touch the bow of the USS Idaho will be the waters of Idaho.”
