Poky Car Show, July 2023: Hot, Loud, Rude & Crude!

The free Pocatello Car Club show started at 17 hours (5pm), 22JUL2023, it was 100+ Fahrenheit (38+ C)! I started recording video (I need a real video camera) and stills at about 17:30 hours, cars were still rolling in, eventually they would have at least 1-hundred cars show up.

No audio on this video due to loud copyrighted music being played:

The rollout for the Pocatello Car Club cruise started at 19 hours (7pm), hot vehicles in the hot 100+ Fahrenheit climate:

This was the quiet street to view car show cruisers, even though Grandma claimed “I can’t hear you!”:

July’s action on Main Street wasn’t as loud as it was in June:

It seemed most of the car-cruise action was taking place in the Center Street ‘tunnel’:

On 06JUL2023, the Idaho Army Nation Guard broke ground on a new Readiness Center, in Twin Falls, Jerome County.  Officially, this is part of a state and federal taxpayer funded ‘expansion’ that is actually meant to reduce the number of Armories in the geographically spread out state of Idaho, from 23 down to just nine: “This is part of a national readiness center master plan where we consolidate units so we’re more efficient in maintaining facilities. We’re basically going to decrease from 23 facilities across the state to nine regional readiness centers.”– Colonel Dennis Stitt, Idaho Army National Guard 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team (CBCT)

According to local news reports, the new Jerome County Regional Readiness Center will cost at least $23-million, and take two years to complete. The new facility will house the 116th Brigade Engineer Battalion (which is already headquartered in Twin Falls) and the 145th Brigade Support Battalion (currently headquartered in Lewiston).

The Idaho National Guard stated that this new ‘consolidated’ facility is the “first of many” intended to reduce the long term costs of logistics.  The 116th CBCT (aka Snake River Brigade) has units spread across Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Oregon.

Homegrown Potatoes & Onions in Pumpkin Soup.

July 2023

My way of gardening is controversial, just throw it in the Idaho dirt and see if it grows. No fertilizers, insecticides or herbicides. Just water and Sun, it works good enough for me.

I planted a white-onion two Summers ago, now it split into two onions.

This Spring, I threw some potatoes in the ground and already got a small harvest.

Pumpkin puree makes a good soup base (canned or make your own). I used salt, and the per-i-ful spices typical of pumpkin pie which requires hella sugar to equalize ( I like sugar, not for diabetics!). You must experiment with the flavorings you add to the pumpkin base, don’t blame me! I also used the potatoes & onions I recently harvested.

The onions, having grown for the past two Summers, are tough, I had to switch to a serrated knife to cut/saw them and then fry them to soften them.

Unfortunately, the potatoes are bland, even after boiling in salt water. That’s what happens when you just let plants grow ‘wild’, never know what you’re gonna get.

I made garlic toast, which is always good with ‘heavy’ soups, and you can use to sop-up the remnants left behind in the bowl.
