Vehicle I-D: Russia’s ‘new’ T-72B3, “Hello, anybody in there?”

Russia’s T-72B3 has been around for a while, but this new version is missing something; the crew!

According to TASS, tank maker Uralvagonzavod has been busy building hundreds of robot tanks based on the T-72B3.  Some robot tanks will carry traditional boom-sticks, while others will be armed IFVs.

No further details reported.

Vehicle I-D: New airborne BMD-2M

“The KBP [Instrument Design Bureau] is upgrading BMD-2 combat vehicles. During their overhaul, they are being equipped with the Bereg combat module unofficially dubbed ‘mini-Berezhok.’….  …The module features a gunner’s sight combined with a stabilized field of view, an automatic target tracker and two stabilizer computers.”-unnamed source to TASS

The BMD-2M module features a one-seat turret, removing the commander’s seat and sight.  The fire control system is standardized with the similar systems of the Bakhcha and Berezhok combat modules.

The upgrades are part of a wider airborne vehicle modernization program announced in December 2018.

Soviet Great Patriotic War ‘Bat’ to be resurrected from the dead!

“For the first time in the world, a Tu-2 bomber will be reconstructed to its operational condition on the premises of the Novosibirsk State Technical University. The reconstruction work will be carried out by Aviarestavratsiya. This work will take three years.”-Science and Higher Education Ministry

The Tupolev 2 bomber of World War Two fame is being brought back to life in Russia.

A Tupolev TU 2 WWII Soviet front line bomber (NATO reporting name Bat) on static display at Monino Museum, Russia. TASS photo by Marina Lystseva.

According to TASS, the resurrection was supposed to start on 21AUG2019.  The specific plane to be restored to flying condition had a long history, first flying with the Soviet forces during World War Two, then flying with Chinese forces until the 1980s(!), and then ending up in the United States in the hands of the War Eagles Air Museum in New Mexico (read a description of the plane and how the Chinese used it, here).

War Eagles Air Museum, after restoration.

The U.S. museum restored the Tu-2 to the point it could be used as a static display.  In 2019, the Russia based Aviarestavratsiya (air restoration)/Winged Victory Memorial supposedly acquired the plane and will bring it back to Russia: “This is not a plane that was shot down or was broken. We have not yet studied its series numbers and have not yet tracked its exact history. The plane will be studied and analyzed in detail. Each element will be reconstructed or restored.”-Boris Osyatinsky, Aviarestavratsiya/Winged Victory Memorial

However, as of 2022 the War Eagles Air Museum in New Mexico still lists the Bat as part of their displays.

By the way, China still has several Tu-2 bombers on display:

Incomplete list of seismic/natural disaster reports from around the Pacific Ring of Fire, July 2019.  Not only is quake and volcano activity ramping up around the Pacific Ring of Fire, it’s ramping up around the planet.

A new business report says seismic surveys “can grow into the most important market in the world that has played an important role in making progressive impacts on the global economy.”

Therefore, the moon is indeed a potential ploonet once it reaches an unstable orbit.”-Mario Sucerquia, University of Antioquia

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency is encouraging residents to stay vigilant as part of Tsunami Awareness Month. April was chosen as the month to honor and remember the hundreds of lives lost during the worst tsunami event in Hawai’i’s recent history.  The 1946 April Fool’s Day tsunami was caused by an 8.6 earthquake near Alaska: “Earthquake-generated tsunamis can reach Hawaii within just a few hours at speeds of nearly 500 miles per hour!”-Jeff Daniels, former Honolulu District Emergency Management Chief

Great Reneger: Colorado Army unit to control deployments

The U.S. Army’s 152nd Movement Control Team (MCT), 4th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, is prepping to take over deployments ops in NATO Europe:  “We have to do a lot of training on international laws to make sure the equipment is up transportation standards and how to get equipment internationally accepted.  We have to know about customs and the environmental laws as well.  We’re going to be split between multiple countries throughout Europe. There will be a ‘sister unit’ operating in the north and we’ll be focused on Southern Europe.”-First Lieutenant Enrique Martinez, Mobility Officer 152nd MCT

“We will be coordinating movements, tracking movements and following equipment in and out of many different counties. This means that we’ll be working very closely with people from foreign armies.”-Staff Sergeant Johnnie Duce, Movement Supervisor 152nd MCT

At the begging of March 2019 U.S. THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) missiles were deployed to Israel, under the Dynamic Force Employment (DFE) ‘concept’.

The U.S. Army’s Bravo Company-First Battalion-503rd Infantry Regiment-173rd Airborne Brigade (in NATO Italy), also deployed to Israel for the wargame. USA photo by Henry Villarama, 23FEB2019.

Supposedly this deployment has nothing to do with increased fighting in the area, but is meant to prove DFE is capable of rapidly deploying air defense weapons globally (just like the APS system), in anticipation of World War Three.
