One Year Later: Potential wild fires threaten to spread even more radiation, Japanese firefighters concerned!

Apparently people are starting to realize another threat within the 20km No-Go Zone around Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant; wildfires.

There are no firefighters within the No-Go Zone, and outside the zone there is not sufficient water in the piped systems for firefighters to hook hoses up to.

On March 13, 2012, area firefighters held a drill to prepare for a possible wildfire inside the No-Go Zone. They had to use tanker trucks and helicopters to bring in water.

The firefighters also had to wear radiation suits, and take radiation readings.  The fear is that a wildfire within the No-Go Zone would spread more radiation by burning up contaminated plants and buildings.

Government/Corporate Incompetence: Nebraska could have suffered Nuclear disaster last year, workers jury rigging new parts, according to NRC

March 13, 2012, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission released a preliminary report on last year’s fire at the Fort Calhoun nuclear plant in Nebraska.  It shows corporate incompetence that could have led to disaster, if the plant hadn’t already been shut down.

The nuclear reactors had been shut down for maintenance, and were shut down longer than planned because of  flooding from the Missouri river.

The incompetence comes from a incorrectly installed electrical breaker panel, which began to smolder and eventually ignited.  The breaker panel was not designed for the existing switches, and was mickey moused to fit.  The result was that grease built up in the panel, overheated and caught fire.

There is more incompetence, in that the NRC learned that workers had noticed a burning smell coming from the panel at least three days before the fire broke out!

The NRC also discovered that the warning siren system for people living nearby is faulty, and there is no back up warning system in place!

This is proof that the greatest danger involving nuclear plants, are the corporations operating them!

Corporate Incompetence: TEPCo claims they’ve handed out billions in disaster claims, yet individuals still demand ‘Show me the money!’

On March 11, 2012, Tokyo Electric Power Company officials claimed they’ve handed out $5.4 billion in compensation for the nuclear disaster at Fukushima Daiichi.

There’s a major problem; almost half the people who’re supposed to be getting that say they’re still waiting for it!

NHK reporting that about 40% of the people who’ve applied for the compensation are still stuck in application limbo.  People say TEPCo is deliberately making the process difficult.

TEPCo didn’t even start paying out compensation until October 2011, when they were finally ordered to by the Japanese government!  If 40% of the applicants are stuck in limbo, then who got that $5.4 billion paid out so far?

Government/Corporate Incompetence: Nearly One Year Later & officials still don’t understand the magnitude of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear diasaster!

I’ve been following this tragedy since March 11, 2011, and the one constant in all this is the unbelievable level of incompetence within the government leadership, and with the corporations in charge of the nuclear power industry in Japan!

Today, March 11, 2012, an official report says the corporate & government leadership of Japan still don’t know what is really going on with the General Electric designed nuclear disaster reactors at Fukushima Daiichi!

Dozens of government sanctioned investigation teams have revealed the insufficient measures against tsunami, and the inadequate responses to the nuclear accident.  But, no one knows just how bad it is inside the reactor units!

Of major concern: Radiation levels emitted from the power plant are still so high that TEPCo still doesn’t know where the high levels of radiation are actually coming from, so far everything they’ve been telling the media has been a wild ass guess!  TEPCo (Tokyo Electric) has recently admitted that radiation levels are so high around some areas of the nuclear compound that they can not send people in to find out what’s going on!

You know, I’ve said it many times before, Bill Nye (that old science guy) has said it many times, the Ukrainians and Russians have said it: Why don’t they dump sand, lead and concrete on the damn thing?

One Year later: Tourist bus finally removed from top of two story building in Japan

On March 11, 2011, a 17 ton tourist bus was left on top of a two story community hall building, after the tsunami sucked itself back out to sea.

That was in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, Honshu, Japan (Nippon).

On March 10, 2012, nearly one year later, the bus was finally removed from the roof.  Many survivors said it was a bad reminder of the tsunami.  The owner of the bus company said the sight of his bus on the roof drove him to swear that he will operate his bus line again.

The bus had been sitting in a garage, 500 meters (1,640 feet) from its resting place, when the tsunami swept it away.  Watch NHK reporter who filmed as she ran from disaster video to see the bus immediately after the tsunami.

Government & Corporate Incompetence: 80% of people near Fukushima contaminated with Iodine!

This is the result of the Japanese government, and the power company TEPCo,  dragging their feet regarding the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster: 80% of the people that used to live near the General Electric designed disaster reactors are contaminated with iodine!

The contamination was discovered after researchers tested their thyroids.  At least five people have 50 millisieverts of contamination, and one person has 87 millisieverts.  This study looked specifically at iodine contamination.

In February the government of Fukushima released their study, which looked at over all radiation contamination, it wasn’t good.

Global Food Crisis: Increase in number of Fish from Japan testing positive for Radiation Contamination, proof that Fukushima is spewing even more radiation!

“The frequency of radiation detection appears to be rising as two reactors at the Fukushima plant are currently leaking radiation.”-unnamed South Korean official

March 8, 2012, South Korea’s Animal, Plant and Fisheries Quarantine and Inspection Agency says fish from Japan are still contaminated with radiation, almost one year after the March 2011 nuclear disaster.

Korean officials say they’ve detected cesium in 32 recent shipments of fish from Japan.  They say that’s a 50% increase from tests done on 21 prior shipments!

South Korea has been constantly monitoring fish shipments from Japan, ever since the March nuclear disaster at Fukushima Daiichi.  They say radiation levels are still under international “safe” limit guidelines, however, it has increased in the past few months of 2011!

Government Incompetence: Japan finally starts decontamination of roads!

Almost a year after the March 11, 2011, Mega Quake that led up to the nuclear disaster at Fukushima Daiichi, the Japanese government has finally started decontamination of roads around the GE designed disaster reactors!

On March 8, workers began spraying down a road around Naraha Town Hall.  Observers say the radiation levels immediately dropped by 80%!

So why did the government wait so long to do it?  IDK, but probably the real reason why they finally started the decontamination was to stop the exodus of people from that area.  Japanese media reports say the government is hoping their late in coming decontamination efforts will convince people to return to their homes!

Last year, out of desperation several local governments tried to decontaminate on their own, but ran into funding and staffing issues.  They appealed to the national government for help.

Japan Modern Day Atlantis round 11: More than 10,000 earthquakes hit Japan in the past year! Japan Islands shift Eastward!

Japan’s Meteorological Agency reporting that in the past 12 months, Japan has been hit with 10,119 earthquakes!

70% are considered aftershocks to the March 11, 2011 Mega Quake.  The agency includes quakes that are weak but can still be felt by humans.

Japan’s Geospatial Information Authority reported that the main islands of Japan have shifted eastward. Yamada Town, in northeastern Iwate Prefecture, moved about 76 centimeters (more than 2 & half feet) to the east.

The scientists say massive crust movements are still taking place, and they warn people to be prepared for more big quakes!
