The Black Death caused by vampire humans? Stop blaming rats!

Vampires are always accompanied by rats, because rats are associated with death, death at the hands of a disease spread by blood sucking parasites.  For hundreds of years humans blamed The Black Death on blood sucker fleas found on rats, but a new study (supporting other earlier studies) blames it on ecto-parasites which specifically suck on human blood!

Bubonic plague is a bacteria that can be found mainly in rodents, such as squirrels in California, and most modern human cases are the result of being bitten by a flea from a rodent.  A new study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences says fleas and lice which specifically target humans, not rats, spread The Black Death of the 14th-19th Gregorian centuries (aka The Second Pandemic).  This also suggests that this version of the plague evolved to target humans only: “Several studies have suggested that human ectoparasite vectors, such as human fleas (Pulex irritans) or body lice (Pediculus humanus humanus), caused the rapidly spreading epidemics.”

Mmmm, now I’m wanting some of that yummy Irish Death brewski!

Corporate Incompetence: Train employees beat to death the wrong man, in front of dozens of witnesses

In China, a good samaritan tried to stop a fight between train stewards and a disgruntled passenger.  He paid for it with his life.

According to more than 20 witnesses, after the good samaritan intervened more train employees showed up, including the train’s conductor.  Apparently they mistook the good samaritan as the passenger who was causing the fight.

The samaritan was grabbed by the neck and beaten about the head as he was hauled off the train.  An ambulance was called, but he was dead by the time it arrived.  No word on what will happen to the train employees, but police have taken at least 20 sworn witness statements.

Government Incompetence: Social Security lists 14,000 living people as dead, every year, can you check to see if your really dead?

The U.S. Social Security Administration has been listing as many as 14,000 people, who are alive, as being dead and cutting off payments.

Between 2007 and 2010, 36,657 living people were declared dead.  I wonder if that’s had any affect on consumer spending?

Living people who’re declared dead by the Social Security Administration not only lose benefits, but have to prove they’re still alive.  That can take months.  Until then you won’t be able to make any financial transactions with banks, etc.

Most people find out they’re dead when their checks start bouncing, then their Social Security payments don’t show up.

Some people discover that not only were they declared dead, but the Social Security Administration “lost” their file, forcing the “dead” person to literally start over with the SSA.

The “deaths ” are listed in a Death Master File.  Many genealogy web sites offer a Social Security Death Index search service, that lets you search a person’s history using their social security number.  Maybe you can search for yourself, if you show up you know you’re dead.
