Not only has Turkey given up on its attempt to join the European Union (EU) but it’s looking more and more like Turkey is about to get the hell outta NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).
On 04APR2018 Iran, Russia and Turkey held a tripartite summit to discuss what will happen to Syria, now that DAIISH is defeated. U.S. president Donald Trump didn’t attend the conference and simply stated that the United States would be leaving Syria “very soon” (which seemed to be news to the Department of State and Department of Defense).
U.S. news media made sure the taxpayers of United States knew about the Syria Conference that didn’t involve the U.S., but failed to mention things like Turkey buying Russian made weapon systems and even getting help from Russia to go nuclear.
Turkey’s own news media reported that not only is Turkey buying the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system, but that Russia will attempt to deliver it sooner than originally agreed to. This happened the day before the tripartite summit concerning Syria, and it should be noted that NATO administrators complained that Turkey never told them about the deal with Russia saying “We have relayed our concerns to Turkish officials regarding the potential purchase of the S-400.”

They also made a deal concerning the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant project, with Russian president Vladimir Putin saying its was a new level of cooperation between Turkey and Russia.
You could partly blame the new partnership on the increasing ‘western’ sanctions against Russia, because that new level of cooperation is being motivated by money: “Russia has become the third export market for Turkey after Germany and China. Turkey has become our seventh basic commercial partner.”-Russian president Vladimir Putin
“Our trade volume has surpassed $22 billion dollars with a 32% increase, according to our calculations compared to the previous year. Our goal is to reach $100 billion.”-Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Also in the works are two natural gas pipelines from Russia to Turkey, called TurkStream. One of the lines is meant to circumvent NATO controlled Ukraine to provide Europe with much needed gas.
