Confirmed number of MERS cases in Republic of Korea (RoK) now at 150. All are connected to hospitals or ambulance services. Deaths from Middle East Respiratory Syndrome now at 16.
The UN’s World Health Organization is demanding that RoK stop all people ‘suspected’ of having MERS from travel. WHO is also demanding that RoK health administrators establish a ‘family tree’ to trace exactly how MERS got into the east Asian country.
The central European country of Slovakia reporting a ‘suspected’ MERS patient has been quarantined in a hospital.
The government of Philippines reports a Filipino working at their embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has MERS, “Despite the considerable decrease in MERS-CoV incidence in Saudi Arabia…”. The Philippines’ Department of Health has revealed that since 2012 at least 10 Filipinos working in KSA have died from MERS. The public announcement implied that the MERS victims were/are healthcare workers.
In Malaysia, news reports say a 76 years old woman under quarantine was ‘rescued’ by her family after she begged them to save her from the hospital in Miri. But they just didn’t take her home, they took her to their local hospital in Brunei, however the medical staff in Brunei refused to admit the patient. The woman had just returned from KSA, and had been quarantined pending testing of her sputum. News reports did not indicate that the woman was actually sick with any symptoms.
