“We’d never be part of Quebec or cede out of Canada because we don’t believe we are Canadians to begin with. Our ties are to the land.”-Grand Chief Michael Delisle of Kahnawake
Being inspired by the Crimean independence, and the push by French Canadians to try again for independence, North American Mohicans are now pushing independence as well.
More than 12-thousand Mohicans live in Quebec, but they say if the French gain independence from British empire Canada for Quebec, then the Mohawk tribe will seize the opportunity to gain independence for themselves.
The Kahnawake, Kanesatake and Akwesasne tribes are spread through Quebec, Ontario and even the U.S. state of New York.
