The ROK Supreme Court has just ruled unconstitutional the Martial Law declared by former U.S. backed dictator Park Chung-hee. South Korea has technically been under Martial Law since 1971 (bet you didn’t know that).
Park Chung-hee ruled the U.S. backed Republic of Korea from 1961 to 1979. His first time as ruler came by a military coup. In 1963 he supposedly won a democratic election. In 1972 he declared Marital (military) Law. His rule came to an end when he was assassinated by one of his own body guards.
Never did the U.S. government complain about his rule. Never did the main streamer U.S. media report about his dictatorship. Now his daughter, Park Geun-hye, is the new President of South Korea.
