Government & Corporate Incompetence: Reactor 2 at Fukushima Daiichi heating up, possibly due to a plumbing screw up!

On 27 January 2012, the temperature in reactor 2 was at 45 Celsius (113 Fahrenheit). On 05 February it’s at 73.3 Celsius (163.9 Fahrenheit).

Tokyo Electric (now effectively state owned due to running out of money) reports that the rise in temp could be due to some recent plumbing work.  Hello!

Another problem is that two separate thermometers are giving cooler temp readings, so they’re not sure which ones to believe.  To be safe they’re going with the higher temp readings.

TEPCo is now pumping 10.6 tons of water per hour, trying to keep the General Electric designed Fukushima Daiichi Reactor 2 from overheating.

What Economic Recovery? 130,000 Japanese flee 11 March 2011, disaster areas!

The Tohoku region, which has three of the prefectures hit hardest by the 11 March 2011 disasters, saw 129,385 people leave.

The prefectures affected are of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima.  Fukushima had the most people leave; 31,381.

Believe it or not, people did actually move into the region.  88,159 people moved in, making the net loss of population 40,000. According to Japan’s Internal Affairs Ministry, that’s still the biggest decline in population, in that region, since 1970.

Pacific Ring of Fire & Japan Modern Day Atlantis round 6: NE Honshu to be hit by another magnitude 8+ quake

Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) is reporting that the March 11, 2011, magnitude 9 earthquake has created conditions for another large magnitude quake in the same region.

JAMSTEC studied the fault lines off the north east coast of Honshu and concluded that the March 11 quake changed the dynamics of the Pacific Plate, which subducts under Japan.

Normally aftershocks take place when established, or even new, fault lines are compressed.  The aftershocks that have continued since March 11, 2011, are not happening that way, they are the result of the faults being pulled apart.

This type of aftershock action can result in a huge earthquake.  The last time Japan suffered a magnitude 8+ quake, as a result of faults being pulled apart, was 80 years ago.

JAMSTEC says the chances of such a quake have greatly increased, as well as the chances of more massive tsunamis.  This follows a recent report about a huge fault cliff discovered off the southern end of Honshu.

Pacific Ring of Fire & Japan Modern Day Atlantis round 5: Southern Honshu could suffer Tsunami even larger than the one that hit in March 2011

A team of researchers from University of Tokyo, and Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), have discovered that southern Honshu will get hit by a much larger tsunami, than the one that hit north eastern Honshu in March, 2011.

Their reason is that they’ve discovered, off the Kii Peninsula, a deep ocean fault cliff that’s 200 km (124 miles) long and 1,000 meters (3,281 feet) tall!

The Kii Peninsula is on the Central Tectonic, or Japan Median Tectonic, fault line, which runs from eastern Honshu down through Kyushu.  On the south side of that line is the highly unstable Philippine Plate.

Professors are now warning local officials that they need to draw up new earthquake/tsunami survival plans in light of the discovery.

Are you a health care worker who wants to get out of the United States? Japan wants you!

Japan is facing a major shortage of health care workers.  Partly because millions of Japanese have left the country due to the ongoing nuclear disaster, but also because Japan’s national qualification test for health care workers is too tough.

Most foreign health care workers, in Japan, come from Philippines and Indonesia.  For the latest exam the Japanese government tried to make it easier by adding Hiragana alphabet and English equivalents for technical terms.

The pass rate for foreign health care workers is only 2.6%!!!  But don’t blame it on the fact that they might not understand the Japanese language, half of all Japanese who take the test, fail!

Don’t worry, if you go to Japan for a new life as a health care worker, you’ve got four years (after you’ve arrived in Japan) to practice your Japanese, along with three years of official training, before you have to take test.

Pale Green Horse, Radiation & Global Food Crisis: Japan to increase radiation detectors in food industry, sets new contamination standards

Japan’s food industry is being required to install more cesium detectors in their factories, and the Health Ministry says it can pay for only half of them.  Japan’s food  producer will have to find a way to pay for the rest.

Japan’s Health Ministry has also changed contamination guide lines.  They’ve actually made them stricter when it comes to cesium.  Beginning April, 2012, general food products will be allowed 100 becquerels of cesium per kilogram, which is an 80% reduction from the current “safe” level.

Also, baby food and milk will be allowed to contain 50 becquerels.  However, drinking water will be allowed only 10 becquerels.  I wonder why they think it’s OK to have 50 becquerels in milk but only 10 in water?

To question, even more, the 10 becquerel drinking water limit is the fact that the new cesium detection equipment can not detect any cesium below 25 becquerels!  So how can they test the water accurately?

Government Incompetence & What Global Warming? Freezing temps cause more leaks at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant

Apparently officials with Tokyo Electric Power Company (which has recently been nationalized by the Japanese government, because TEPCo is broke) never thought to protect all the exposed pipes from freezing weather.  Maybe they thought global warming would protect them?

Japan is being hit with their usual freezing winter temps, along with record snow fall in some areas, and that has caused cooling pipes to freeze and burst at the General Electric designed Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

TEPCo said at least 40 liters (10.5 U.S. gallons) of water leaked from pipes in Reactor 4.  However, they said 7 tons of water have leaked from Reactor 6!

Matsumoto Junichi, a TEPCo rep,  admitted they failed to protect the exposed pipes from the freezing weather!

Pale Green Horse & Government Evil: Japan breaks own laws and destroys Nuclear Disaster meeting records!

The Japanese news media agency, NHK, has discovered that the Japanese Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency has destroyed (or never kept) records of at least 21 nuclear disaster meetings, in direct violation of Japanese law!

NHK discovered the illegal act when it demanded to see the public records of the meetings.  What NHK got was a list of items discussed at the meetings, but no detailed minutes.

NHK was told no records of the actual discussions were kept.  NHK says Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency officials told them they were too busy to keep records!

The meetings took place after the General Electric designed Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant went critical following the 11 March 2011, earthquake and tsunamis.

Also missing are records of government meetings with the operator of Fukushima Daiichi, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCo).

NHK says they wanted to see the documents because they were part of the government’s disaster reaction decision making.  Both the Japanese government, and TEPCo, have been accused of dragging their feet, taking too little action in dealing with the ongoing nuclear disaster.

Pale Green Horse & Corporate & Government Incompetence: Radioactive construction gravel shipped all over Japan!

Japan’s Industry Ministry now admits that since the March, 2011, nuclear disaster in Fukushima Prefecture, construction gravel from that area has been shipped all over Japan, and it’s radioactive!

The ministry was forced to make the admission after an occupied apartment building tested positive for high levels of cesium (more on the inside of the building than on the outside).

Industry officials said they did not think there would be a problem with the gravel since it is first dug up out of the ground.  Apparently they didn’t think it would be contaminated while sitting on the ground waiting to be shipped out, after all the Fukushima Daiichi reactors are still spewing radiation!

The gravel quarry operator said at least 20 construction companies took on large amounts of gravel just from the end of March through April, 2011.

White Horse & World War 3: Iran and the United States make rare exchange of official letters, what do they say?

I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.

On January 15, Iranian officials confirmed they’ve received an official, and rare, letter from the President of the United States.  Iranian officials have not said what is written in the letter, but: “We are in the process of studying the letter and if necessary we will respond.”

So far there is no indication from Barack Obama what the letter is about.  Some analysts speculate that it concerns Iran’s threats to close the Hormuz Strait if oil sanctions are fully imposed.

“We have reliable documents and evidence that this terrorist act was planned, guided and supported by the CIA.”-Iranian letter to the U.S.

Also on January 15, Iran sent the United States an official letter saying they have evidence that the U.S. and Israel are behind assassinations of Iranian scientists, and explosions at IRGC camps.
