U.S. Army deals with high cost of food and low moral among Cooks.

Recently the United States Army released videos which reveals the problem of a high rate of ‘burn-out’ among the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 92G (Culinary Specialist), and also revealed that the high cost of food is a problem for the Army.

For February 2026, the U.S. Army unveiled a new cafeteria facility in an attempt to save money on the higher costs of food. Basically the U.S. Army is hoping that shifting to contracted food service (with the foreign United Kingdom based Compass Group, through their U.S. subsidiary Compass Group USA) will save tax dollars. The ‘Campus Style’ eateries will be open from 06:30 hours to 20:00 hours, seven days per week, and will have seven stations of food prepared using more than 3-thousand recipes.

The Army also claimed, in a round-a-bout way, that their in-house food service had become so bad that Soldiers were spending their own money eating at civilian operated food venues.  For those of you who don’t know, part of the incentive to get people to enlist in the U.S. military is that their meals are paid for by the taxpayers.  The Army is also considering allowing Compass Group to sell beer/wine to Soldiers: “We tell our soldiers, ‘hey, look, go carry a rifle, but on Friday night, you can’t have a beer in a restaurant’.
