Boise based Micron started life in 1978. My first experience with Micron was in the Idaho Army National Guard, in the mid 1990s. Micron was supplying complete computer systems to the military, most of which were used for administrative tasks. Micron made a variety of computer products, but it seems that in the early 2000s company leaders decided to focus on computer memory (microchips, semiconductors), and stopped making complete systems. In the two-thousand-teens, more than a thousand Micron employees in the Boise metro-area were laid-off as Micron focused on taking over global competitors in the memory chip world.
Today, Micron is considered to be the leading memory maker in the United States, with operations in more than eight other countries, and it is now considered a national security threat by The People’s Republic of China (communist China).
