Disappearing Students Syndrome (DSS): A phrase created by me to describe a phenomenon taking place across the United States, affecting both privately and publicly funded schools, from Kindergarten all the way through University levels.
Incomplete list of publicly announced education related layoffs & school shutdowns, February 2017:
Alaska: Anchorage School District eliminating 99 jobs because they’re funding is short by $15.3-million USD (United States Dollar).
Arizona: The corrupt University of Phoenix announced yet more mass layoffs, this time 170 faculty facing layoffs! This time its blamed on what I call DSS, probably due to investigations by U.S. Department of Education.
California: Montebello Unified School District voted to layoff 468 people, if Los Angeles County goes through with $17-million USD in education cuts! Menlo Park City School District warned that if local cash-strapped taxpayers reject yet another tax increase then 30 teachers (and an undisclosed number of non-teacher employees) will lose their jobs, sounds like blackmail to me. San Diego Unified School District warning of at least 850 layoffs due to being in-the-hole by $124-million!
Illinois: Rock Valley College warned it must layoff faculty for the upcoming school year, blaming state taxpayer funding cuts and what I call Disappearing Students Syndrome. Chicago based Marbles: The Brain Store now bankrupt dead, shutting down 37 stores and killing at least 333 jobs! Company administrators blamed crashing sales not only at their brick-n-mortar shops but on the internet was well!
Indiana: After 127 years Saint Joseph’s College shutting down at the end of the current school year. Local news media say the community “is shocked”, but supposedly the shutdown is temporary. The nursing program will continue, but 9-hundred students are now screwed out of their non-nursing degrees. Local news media speculated that it was due to lack of funding, Saint Joseph admin refused to explain the decision.
Iowa: Iowa Western Community College laid off 22 people after the state gov’na cut $117-million USD from the education budget. In Cedar Rapids, Ainsworth elementary and Bernard elementary schools shutting down due to DSS.
Maryland: Barnes&Noble shutting down in Towson, in May, due to major property re-development that apparently has no room for a bookstore.
Missouri: God powerless to stop ‘his’ Saint Peter Catholic School from shutting down by the start of the 2017-18 school year. The school is being merged with other christian schools due to The Rapture, I mean lack of christian students.
New York: God powerless to stop The Archdiocese of New York from shutting down more christian schools, this time six more schools (in NYC and Sullivan County) being consolidated due to The Rapture, I mean what I call Disappearing Students Syndrome. They also blamed the skyrocketing costs of maintaining properties in The (failed) Empire State.
Pennsylvania: University of Pennsylvania convinced nearly 6-hundred employees to retire early! Administrators blame decreased taxpayer funding and what I call DSS for their “strategic realignment” (‘strategic’ means they expect the current situation to be a long term problem). Consolidated School of Business shutting down their 33 years old Lancaster campus because “…through no fault of our own, we are faced with having to apply for new accreditation. Taking into consideration all of the hurdles new accreditation requires, we concluded that it was necessary for us to consolidate our two campuses into one campus…” Local news media revealed that in December 2016 more than 2-hundred schools across the U.S. had their accreditation revoked by the Obama regime!
Texas: Dallas County Schools warning of as many as 1-hundred layoffs due to their taxpayer funding coming up $42-million short of what they thought they would get!
Vermont: God powerless to stop the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) shutdown their ten years old Winooski operations due to a lack of people willing to take part in the after school activities.
Virginia: After nearly 20 years Bertram and Williams Books and Fine Arts shutdown due to sales crashing in the past few years.
Dumbing Down January 2017: “I’M SCARED….FOR A BAD REASON!”
