Incomplete list of publicly announced layoffs & shutdowns:
California: Warner Brothers administrators revealed they must kill off an undisclosed number of movie industry jobs in order to save at least $200-million USD per year! Sunnyvale based AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) revealed they will kill off 700 jobs around the World, blaming crashing sales of computers! Sunnyvale based internet company Yahoo confirmed it will kill off at least 80 jobs in the country of Jordan, and 400 jobs in the country of India! Reports say Yahoo will kill off jobs in other countries as well, due to the suck-ass World economy. In Chatsworth, Albertelli Law issued a WARN saying 66 people will become unemployed before Xmas. In Rancho Cucamonga, intravascular imaging medical company Volcano Corporation issued a WARN saying 170 people will become unemployed before Xmas! In San Diego, The Active Network issued a WARN saying 65 people will become unemployed before Xmas. In Santa Clara, Bon Appetit Management issued a WARN saying they will shutdown in November, 97 jobs lost. In Modesto, Olam Spices issued a WARN saying they will kill off 242 jobs before Xmas! In El Centro, Sears Holdings issued a WARN saying the Kmart will shutdown in January 2015, at least 75 jobs lost. Unnamed former employees revealed that Obama Care is forcing American Medical Response (owned by Envision Health) to save money by shutting down its Salida billing center and move it to Philippines, 200 U.S. jobs lost!
Georgia: Atlanta based CNN (Cable News Network) revealed they will kill off 300 jobs across the United States! It’s part of the massive job culling by owner Time Warner-Turner Broadcasting.
Indiana: In Newburgh, after 32 years the popular Pizza Chef restaurant shutdown. What automotive industry recovery? In Mishawaka, taxsucker, and maker of the (in)famous Hummer, AM General laid off 60 people. However, the company had actually recalled 200 people earlier in the year due to increased demand for the military general utility machine. In Muncie, after 18 years Party Wizards announced it will shutdown at the end of December.
Iowa: In Des Moines, Too Big to Jail Wells Fargo shutdown an office laying off 28 people. The California based bank continues to report profits.
Maine: Sears Holdings announced they will shutdown the Presque Isle Sears in January 2015, at least 63 jobs lost.
Massachusetts: Maker of Lord of the Rings video games Turbine (owned by Warner Brothers [see above California] and formerly known as Turbine Entertainment Software, Second Nature, and CyberSpace) admitted to killing off jobs, but refused to give a number. Obama Care has caused Southcoast Health to layoff 70 people. Administrators say their 2014 revenues are down 3% due to pro-insurance industry Obama Care.
Minnesota: In Rochester, Barnes & Noble announced they will shutdown after Xmas.
New York: South Buffalo Charter School laid off eight teacher assistants, apparently they were determined to be ‘excess’ employees. In Batavia, Alpina Foods laid off 32 people, without notice. Administrators blame it on the sudden loss of a major yogurt contract. Pharmaceutical company (legal drugs pusher) Forest Laboratories revealed it will shutdown seven facilities by mid 2015, in the cities of Commack, Farmingdale, Hauppauge and New York. Number of jobs lost has not been revealed. The druggy company sold out to Actavis, which is apparently moving operations to New Jersey. In NYC, magazine publisher Condé Nast to layoff as many as 80 people, blaming lack of advertising sales. And it was revealed that Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia killed off at least 50 jobs. The news was leaked by Confitenti and shocked the employees of Martha Stewart, who indicated that company administrators had been leading them on to think everything was fine at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Also in NYC, RBC Capital Markets-Global Arbitrage and Trading issued a WARN stating they were getting the hell outta New York! Company administrators say they’re moving ops to New Jersey in 2015, affecting at least 1-thousand jobs!
North Carolina: What housing market recovery? In Greenville, Georgia based maker of carpets (and other household flooring) Mohawk Industries announced they will shutdown in December, 56 jobs lost.
Tennessee: In Knoxville, at least 23 people now unemployed after the two decades old Metro Pulse newspaper decided to consolidate publications. The news was announced by the victims, I mean former employees on social media: “Hey! We all just got laid off! Thanks, @knoxnews and @EWScrippsCo!”
Texas: In Arlington, after ten years The Shoppes at Brownstones to officially shutdown at the end of December. It was revealed that the shopping center (which replaced a much, much longer lived and successful skate rink) totally failed back in June and was foreclosed.
Virginia: State administrators warned they will probably kill off 565 employees due to crashing tax revenues! No shit Sherlock, that’s what you’re supposed to do when you’ve screwed up the economy by letting big unAmerican Corporate America kill off millions of good paying-tax paying jobs! State administrators revealed that the economy is so bad in the Old Dominion State that they’re short $2.4-billion! Oh wait, I forgot to tell you that the evil politicians also plan on raising taxes on top of the job culling! (that’s not what you’re supposed to do, unless you want to guarantee a failed state!) In Richmond, iconic state run horse racing track Colonial Downs threatening to go down in November, due to some kind-o dispute. State administrators said they would counter by jacking up your taxes! To quote Bugs Bunny: “What a bunch a moroons!”
The U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) doesn’t count the hundreds of layoffs involving less than 50 people each, in its mass layoff reports. It also doesn’t count all the little ‘mom & pop’ businesses that shutdown. It doesn’t count people who get a severance for being laid off.
