Police report a 7% increase in shootings compared to the same time last year. This despite anti-gun laws and millions of dollars spent on anti-violence programs.
The following is an incomplete list of shootings that took place from Saturday to early morning hours Monday.
3800 block of North St. Louis Avenue: 16 years old boy shot and killed while walking with a group. Police say it was a drive by shooting.
2600 block of East 83rd Street: 33 years old man shot and killed. Police say the shooters walked up to the man. The man was shot in the legs and arm, but died by the time he got to the hospital.
7000 block of East 87th Street (Chatham): 21 years old man apparently minding his own business and sitting in his SUV, when somebody walked up to him and blasted him multiple times. He was killed. Social media say he was a budding rap singer. Police say he tried to drive off after being shot, but died and his SUV crashed into a B*Fresh clothing store.
7900 block of South Champlain Avenue (Chatham): 23 years old man shot and wounded in the leg.
7100 block of South Seeley Avenue: 26 years old man shot in the shoulder and wounded.
West Ferdinand Street and North Lavergne Avenue: Six people ranging in ages of 14 to 22 were standing at the intersection when they got shot. One male was killed and five females were wounded.
2000 block of West 68th Street: 21 years old woman shot and wounded by a drive by shooter.
1900 block of North Tripp Avenue: 26 years old man shot in the head while driving. Amazingly police say he is alive.
Washtenaw Avenue and 24th Street: 49 years old woman shot, now in critical condition. Witnesses say the shooter was actually trying to shoot at a group of men.
Cermak Road and Kolin Avenue: A 28 years old woman who was making a music video was shot and wounded. An 18 years old man shot in the thigh, walked himself to the hospital.
18th Street and Racine Avenue: 25 years old man shot in the butt and wounded.
7900 block of South Paulina Street: 34 years old man shot in the leg, he walked himself to the hospital.
8500 block of South Marquette Road: 25 years old man shot in the back, now in critical condition.
Police say most of the gun violence is caused by gang bangers. New anti-gun laws would not stop the shootings, because most guns used by gang bangers are already illegal!
