Incomplete list of announced closings & layoffs.
Alabama: In Decatur, Sears shutting down, 91 jobs lost.
California: The San Diego Opera laid off 11 employees. In Stockton, the Catholic Diocese is now Chapter 11 bankrupt busted! Bishop Stephen Blaire blamed it on the massive reparations the Diocese must pay out due to their sexual abuse of children! In Newark, BookSmart Books & Toys shutdown. Apparently the rent was too high. In Los Alamitos, Omnicare laid off 99 pharmacy service workers. In Seal Beach, biotech Dendron laying off 62 employees. In Pittsburg, steel maker USS-POSCO warned of 690 layoffs “due to economic uncertainty……based on business in the fourth quarter”! This is significant because USS-POSCO employees 700 people.
Colorado: In Windsor, Kodak Alaris warned of massive layoffs. At its height, the Kodak factory employed 2-thousand people, by 2012 it was down to 2-hundred!
Florida: In Orlando, Saks 5th Avenue laid off 74 employees. In Winter Park, Kmart shutting down, 100 jobs lost!
Illinois: In Chicago, the Sun-Times laid off 11 employees. The newspaper is outsourcing the jobs to try and save money. In Lakeview, tech company Threadless T-Shirt shutdown their flagship office and laid off 25% of their employees.
Indiana: In Flora, Indiana University Health Arnett shutdown its office, leaving the town with only one doctor’s office! So what was that about Obama Care increasing access to health care?
Maryland: In Columbia, Nielsen Audio shutdown, 333 jobs lost!
Massachusetts: In Lowell, Too Big to Jail JPMorgan Chase shutdown an office, killing 60 jobs.
Minnesota: In Saint Paul, after 81 years Seven Corners Hardware shutdown. The owner admitted to his 21 employees that the economy is so bad that he decided to sell out to a property developer. In other words, the property was worth more than what the store was bringing in.
Minneapolis: In Saint James, Tony Downs Foods shutdown, 75 jobs lost.
Missouri: In Kansas City, Swagger Fine Spirits & Food shutdown.
New Jersey: In Atlantic City, the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel shutdown, 1600 jobs lost!
New York: I-3 Electronics laid off 28 employees, due to “lower than expected sales”. The North Country Family Health Center (aka North Country Children’s Clinic) laid off five employees. The clinic is in financial trouble and is now being controlled by Samaritan Medical Center. In Garden City, Talbots Outlet Store shutdown. In Fishkill, Residence Inn by Marriott shutdown, 31 jobs lost.
Ohio: What automotive industry recovery? In Avon Lake, the Ford factory laying off 900+ workers this summer, as it ends production of full size vans! The factory will re-tool for medium duty trucks.
Oregon: In Albany, Albertsons grocery store shutdown.
Tennessee: In Nashville, Mexico based Bimbo Bakeries shutdown, 84 jobs lost.
Texas: In The Woodlands, legal drugs pusher Lexicon Pharmaceuticals laid off 115 people! Company officials say they need to cut $22-million USD from their yearly budget! Non-profit Baylor Medical Center at Garland laid off 47 employees. It’s blamed on a merger that was necessary to survive Obama Care funding cuts.
Wisconsin: In Wausau, The Gap clothing store shutdown. Also, the Hollister clothing store shutdown.
10-12 January 2014. God can’t stop ObamaCare layoffs!
The U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) doesn’t count the hundreds of layoffs involving less than 50 people each, in its mass layoff reports. It also doesn’t count all the little ‘mom & pop’ businesses that shut down.
