Sears & Kmart closing update 13 September 2014: BBN reader gives warning about last Sears call center shutdown! Con artists take advantage of Sears downfall!

“The last Sears Home Improvement call center is closing November 8th. My husband works there. Only people who were full time at the time of the announcement will be getting severance pay. The are lots of people who have been there 10 years or more and they get nothing if they weren’t full time as of last week. It is a crappy situation.”-Tahnna Isbell, comment made to Blind Bat News on 11 September 2014

On 12 September 2014, Sears Holdings officially notified the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that they were shutting down their “rebuild” and customer call center in Columbus by 09 November 2014.  According to Tahnna Isbell, this is the last Sears call center in the U.S.

In Iowa another Kmart being shutdown, this one will close for good right before Xmas!

To show you how desperate retailers in the U.S. are, Kmart (along with other retailers) have already started running Xmas sale adds, in September!

In Connecticut, police arrested three people they accuse of running a scam on potential Sears customers.  Apparently the two men and one woman had been hitting up local businesses, telling them they can get a really good deal on TVs at Sears, due to the many store shutdowns.  In one case a local restaurant ‘bought’ $8800 worth of TVs from the ‘Sears salesmen’, then when they arrived at Sears to pick them up they got nothin’!  One of those arrested actually came out to the Sears parking lot wearing an employee ID, gave the sucker a fake receipt and said they would be right out with those TVs, but never returned.  Those arrested are from Maryland, and police say more arrests are expected.

“…it’s not…reforming health care!”: Massive healthcare job destruction caused by Obamacare, 1st six months of 2014! California & New York lead the U.S. down the Death Spiral!

Incomplete list of healthcare  job cuts that took place, or were announced, from January to June 2014, and were directly or indirectly blamed on Obama Care:

God refuses to stop all powerful Obama Care from forcing Catholic Mercy Health from killing 300 healthcare jobs across seven states: “Like all health care providers, Mercy is managing the impact of market changes, including reimbursement reductions from government and commercial payers, as well as lack of Medicaid expansion in most of the states we serve.”-Sonya Kullman, Mercy Springfield

Alabama:  Gadsden Etowah Emergency Medical Service now chapter 11 bankrupt busted!  Decatur Emergency Medical Service now chapter 11 bankrupt busted!  The Wiregrass Medical Center laid off 30 employees. The largest air ambulance service in the United States, Air Evac Lifeteam, shutdown Air Evac 64 operations in Wetumpka! Company officials directly blamed issues with Obama Care and the bad economy: “The reimbursement issue, along with a low demand for patient transports, made it impossible for us to sustain operations at the base. As a result of the state’s decision not to expand Medicaid, nearly a quarter of the residents we fly in Alabama are self-pay with very little means to pay medical expenses. For those patients covered by Medicaid, they currently reimburse just over $500 for the transport of an adult. The high fixed cost of air ambulance makes it impossible for us to continue to operate with no indication of improvement in sight. We’ve been taking a loss with this base for many years. This is an area where air medical services are needed and we wanted to provide this valuable resource for the people in this region. We’ve also seen a decline in commercial reimbursement rates, making Alabama the lowest state in our 15-state service area for reimbursement.”

Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital shutdown its labor and delivery unit: “There’s a lot of good people that will lose their job due to no fault of their own……On a national level, we are dealing with the biggest change in the healthcare business since the implementation of Medicare in the 1960s!”-Mike Marshall, CEO

Colorado: Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX) laid off more than 130 employees!  Banner Health shutdown its bariatric clinic at the North Colorado Medical Center, 850 patients adversely affected! Company officials admitted that under Obama Care bariatric services are no longer profitable.

Connecticut:  The city of Hartford warned of the elimination of 99 jobs, plus the jacking up of property taxes, and that’s after $18.1-million in spending cuts.  That’s because Obama Care (Affordable Care Act) is causing an $18.6-million increase in retirement and health insurance costs for city employees!  After 29 years William W. It’s blamed on Obama Care: “The healthcare industry is going through unprecedented changes. There is uncertainty around every corner. In 2013, the U.S. government began cutting $113 billion from hospital payments over the next 10 years with $400 billion additional cuts under discussion. As a not-for-profit health system, we face an extraordinary challenge to plan for the future without knowing the payment mechanisms.”-David Anderson, VP HR

Asteroid 2005 YU 55 will come close to Earth, closer than the Moon

NASA says on November 8, asteroid 2005 YU 55 will come very close to the Earth.

The asteroid is 400 meters (1,312 feet) in diameter, and at the closest point will be only 320,000 kilometers (198,000 miles) from Earth, that’s within the orbit of the Moon.

This isn’t a rare occasion; the last time such a close encounter happened was 35 years ago.

General Motors continues to get hit by Japan disaster

As a result of the ongoing disaster in Japan, General Motors suspended all nonessential spending and global travel, a GM spokesman announced.

In addition, GM will suspend production in Spain, and cancel two shifts in Germany.

Even a small supplier of products that are fed to a bigger supplier that feeds the automaker’s assembly plants can delay or halt vehicle production.

Think of the “always a bigger fish” example, but in reverse.  If there are no little fish to eat, what can the bigger fish do?
