“In view of the contradiction between acts and the statements made by the United States of America in regard to the Peace Process, the Afghan government suspended the negotiations, currently underway in Kabul between Afghan and U.S. delegations on the Bilateral Security Agreement.”-National Security Council Office of Afghanistan
Unnamed Afghan government officials say post 2014 security talks (aka Bilateral Security Agreement) with the United States have been halted by the Afghan government, after U.S. officials confirmed they were now in negotiations with Mujahideen/Taliban in Doha, Qatar. Those U.S.-Mujahideen/Taliban negotiations do not include the Afghan government.
Afghan government officials question what good is the Bilateral Security Agreement, if the U.S. and Mujahideen/Taliban are going to make secret deals behind the back of the Afghan government?
In the past President Hamid Karzai repeatedly accused the U.S. of working with Mujahideen, only to have U.S. officials rebuke such accusations.
