Incomplete list of announced closings and layoffs:
California: In Escondido, San Diego and Poway, Palomar Health laid off a total of 77 employees. This is after they laid off 84 people in July. Hospital officials blamed the health care reforms of Obama Care. In Mountain View, Randstad (Google) laid off 30 people. Walt Disney Pictures reported they laid off one employee at their Burbank operations.
Texas: Ruth’s Chris Steak House in San Antonio closed. 86 people now unemployed.
Ohio: Diamond Crystal Brands closed in Perrysburg. 125 people out-o-work!
The U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) doesn’t count the hundreds of layoffs involving less than 50 people each, in its mass layoff reports. It also doesn’t count all the little ‘mom & pop’ businesses that shut down.
