United Nations officials investigated mass rape cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (not to be confused with Republic of Congo). 126 women were raped, and UN investigators confirmed it was carried out by two DRC government battalions, one of which was trained by U.S. forces in 2010.
Recently rebels succeeded in taking control of DRC. Even though it’s been proven that crimes against humanity were indeed being carried out by government troops, the UN created the first ever military force (Intervention Brigade) to invade DRC and remove the rebels from control.
